Big Hollywood : Sanity and Sanctity: The Ennobling Fantasy of J.R.R. Tolkien Part 1

You can get pretty close by reading it to your kids. BTW, I was in eighth grade the first time I read it too. My (very Catholic) mother worried that fantasy (I also played D&D) would lead to my personal and moral destruction. Many years later after she watched the movies she read the books and apologized profusely for her apprehension--she finally "got" it.

Breitbart.com : Study: Slowdown in warming last year not permanent

The only thing definitively, physically permanent is death. We cannot know today whether the change is permanent because the answer to that question lies in the future. To say today that something is (or isn't) permanent is to say that the future is known and that just ain't so. It is pretty bold for these scientists to say that it would be even colder were it not for AGW. How did they test their hypothesis? In what controlled alternate universe did they conduct their experiments on an Earth without people or elevated CO2? Global warming is the biggest faith-based initiative since Islamic jihad.

At the dog track they have a little rabbit on a rail that runs in front for the dogs to chase. I am thinking that at the horse track they could put him on a rail BEHIND the horses.

Remember in Atlas Shrugged how all the union-goverernment types craved stability and security? They were always whining about "fairness" (meaning you couldn't have more than I had) and "equality" (meaning equality of outcomes, not equality of opportunity). Ayn Rand sure understood these people.

Big Hollywood : Judicial Watch: 'NEA Propaganda Effort Grew Out of Obama Campaign'

I particularly love the flak that wanted to "...collaborate our corporate funds..." This is what we need, using corporate money to engorge the anti-business government beast. Where were these people when president Bush was calling for service? Where was their over-eager sense of civic-mindendness when the last president needed a hand? I CANNOT wait for 2012 and the opportunity to flush this corrupt filth out of office and back to the Chicago sewer whence it came.

Thanks for the lecture dad. Do you see me defending my government or our currency? I know economics. All I did was defend service jobs so get off my case. I am a free market capitalist, I don't need you on your high horse telling me what is wrong with my country. I KNOW. You seem to have some anger issues though as you are clearly full of contempt. And good luck dealing with the Chinese. When our currency finally hits bottom, what do you think THEY are going to be worth?

Belittling service jobs is stupid. Has it never occurred to anyone that not all service jobs involve flipping burgers (not that there is anything wrong with flipping burgers, it is an honest job). There are tons of decent-paying service jobs--computer programmers, physicians, nurses, professors, lawyers, architects, pilots, business managers, auto mechanics, teachers, social workers, appliance repairmen, sales people...the list goes on. The future is in jobs that require brain-work not back-work.
