Thanks, David--having lived there myself, this brings back some major nostalgia--however ironic that may seem noting the subject matter ;-) loved the tone and dialogue throughout the piece.

love the humor in this piece! you hit the nail on the head with "We Prefer Fake to Real!" as you put it, there are other things more important going on the world, but in the US, entertainment trumps real news every time.

Great Great list--some I've read and other's I've never even heard of. One of all-time favorites I'd also suggest:
'The Lover' by Marguerite Duras (intense, passionate and a fast-read)

such a bittersweet battle we humans forge--wanting to help out even when nature steps in (in the case of the tasmanian devil's cancer epidemic, for example)--makes me wonder if playing with nature's path is indeed the right path.

I loved Innocents Abroad! I havn''t read anything by Rosalia de Castro--but I will now! In school about 12 years ago I took a class called "Travelers, Tourists and Expatriates" where we also read travel writing by notable authors--some of my favorites were Paul Theroux's 'Pillars of Hercules' and Pico Iyer's 'Falling off the Map: Some Lonely Places of the World'--if you havent read them, check them out!

Thanks for breaking down the science behind the flu shot. So many people I know don't want to take it and it's kind of silly in my mind--it cant' hurt you! Great stuff here :-)
