All about Africa and specifically Kenya : Digital Marketing In Kenya: An Interview With Gaita Wamucii

I think it is still about the timing . During the launch of the Huawei Ideos Mr.Ndemo gave a very interesting stats about the internet users in Kenya. According to him about a year ago there were 3 million internet users in Kenya and that increased to about 7.5 million users now. Believe me the number is going go up and up. Let me go back to my earlier question, If you are running a a business you should be asking yourself where are the customers and clients. I mean it might be the initial stages for the digital marketing but the reality is in the next 2 years or so digital world will be huge in Kenya. So are you ready for it?

The big question for the marketers and PR people at the moment is where are the customers. Can you find them in the social media space? What about the old print media? I mean this question can be answered differently depending on the industry and the targeted market. For the educated lots, they are online. For the old guys ...it is still the old fashion way... But i think we are heading for interesting time

All about Africa and specifically Kenya : Kenyan Cyber-Security: Suffering from Neo-Luddism and Ignorance

Share it all but at the same time be careful. It is hard to understand the people's mentality when comes to online security and the social media. People object to personal details being asked a lot or taken or displayed but on the other hand, millions are telling everything, what they are doing, where, when , personal details and pictures on to social networking sites . How about twitter? Foursquare? Whoever cares to listen or read. I think now there is a thin line between what people consider private and public. The other time i was shocked to see someone's payslip splashed on the internet. Surely how do you do that? What is in the mind of the person doing that? Again cyber security is a bigger issue and many angles. There are very sensitive issues like pyaproll, bank details, credit cards, personal emails or communication which should be protected at all cost and respected by all.

The innovation should be geared towards solving the existing problems. At the end you can only solve a problem you understand or experience. If you are outside that then you need to work with people with the experience, thus innovate with them. There is a new post coming up soon on the path Kenyan developers should take given the existing problems. Keep reading mate and thanks

All about Africa and specifically Kenya : Safaricom Uwezo Tariff..Permanent rates or still an offer?

Apparently you don't need to register. If you have Safaricom number then you probably on this tariff already, check out your phone. Many people complained about being moved to Uwezo tariff without their knowledge.
I became aware of it today morning through twitter. Check your phone, if you have safaricom line it might be showing by default. It is like everyone is in this tariff. There is increase in the calling rates and that might explain why they are not coming out strongly

The last time i asked Dorothy about 3G, her point was that in Kenya, it is only Safaricom with 3g and even that you only get it at the city center and around westlands. So according to her most people use GPRS anyway, even with phones with 3g . I think from now on they have to change tack on that, as expected Zain and Orange are about to roll out their 3Gs and after that probably it will be possible to access 3G network almost everywhere in Kenya. I agree the Memory.size ..is crap...
