This person has crossed the bounds into the classification as an extremely dangerous individual. Let's hope that our NW LE community from BC to N. Cal have been thoroughly and properly familiarized with young Joseph Lester. I know that each and everyone of them will do whatever is within their power to return the precious 9 year old baby safely to her family . . . may all of our thoughts be with the officers who will be involved, and that they are able to do so safely and in turn, at the end of their shifts, may each and every one of them be at home, with their loving families .

I think your sentiments are sincere but misconstrued. It's important to understand that the purpose of an arrest, is to secure the proper administration of the law, and may be made at the discretion of the officer(s) involved depending upon the policies and procedures of a particular agency.

The discretion some agencies allow their personnel to exercise, centers upon the likelihood that an individual being charged with a violation, misdemeanor or felony will show up for the future scheduled court proceedings or not. In the case of this individual, once the trooper was satisfied he was in fact who he was, it would be a fair decision to make that the UofO and coach Kelly would make sure he would make his appearances. I would submit, that his not being arrested was outside the norm, however not unusual given the circumstances.

You are correct that most citizens in this same situation would have been arrested in order that they could be evaluated by the same criteria but that isn't so immediately provided by notoriety.

It's important to understand the reasons behind the various stages of the judicial process, and the function of the arrest process is not intended to be a punitive, as is the sentencing process.

Hopefully this will allow you to understand that justice was not circumvented, and indeed prevailed. The young man was ultimately held accountable as the law intended, which at all times was the objective of the trooper involved.

Actually your reply is most appreciated. People tend to read what intrigues them, and while I am not particularly attracted to this particular genre, I applaud anyone who actually invests the time to read, and their willingness to share what occupies their leisure time, which serves to provide the foundation for a stronger understanding and appreciation of our disparate yet consequential experiences .

I think sharing reading related experiences, keeps us closer as a people, than the all too current and emotional internet related insta-outbursts that are so prevalent on an hourly basis.

Thanks for your honesty.

Cool moniker, last 5 books you've read?

Based upon experience and intuition, I'd suggest the unknown reason for the swerve into the rear of the log truck was very likely due to a combination of the draft created by it being fully loaded as it passed and the 81 year old cyclist's inability to resist the pull caused by aerodynamics and physical acuity.
A very tragic accident.

My condolences to all involved.

No doubt the impact involved horrific force, but the image of the car also indicates that much of the car has been disassembled to gain access to the victim, but none the less, this was a tragic event. I don't know how you can determine if there was negligence or not however from the sparse details in the article. How were you able to rule out some sort of mechanical failure such as a stuck accelerator, blown tire, steering gear malfunction or such?

Agreed that condolences are in order for the Post family.

I don't believe it's possible to determine what the appropriate charges should be from the limited details provided in this brief article. Do you have a theory based in law as to why the charges you suggest are appropriate or are you simply throwing the term out on the table to express your emotion?

My experience would lead me to believe that proper charges will be brought when a thorough and complete investigation has been concluded.

That justice doesn't occur at the speed of google, does not mean that justice won't be done.
