Do you mean words me nothing? That what people say has no influence? I find that utterly incomprehensible. Yes, certain people saying certain things won't make certain other people do anything, no matter what. But when highly influential people say stuff, certain other people who follow those people do stuff that is influence by those words. If President Obama said that Americans should no long respect the life and property of Republicans, do you thing nothing would happen? When Glenn Beck recently railed against a completely unknown sociology professor, she suddenly started getting death threats. Coincidence?! Come on! When Sharon Angle suggests second amendment remedies, is it possible that it gives certain followers an excuse, tips them over the line?

For many people, crossing the line to killing people wouldn't ever happen. But there are innumerable examples where people have been incited, influenced to cross that line. To use an extreme example, are you saying Hitler's rhetoric meant nothing, had no influence upon the actions of people in Germany? To take an example closer to home, the White Citizen's Councils knew exactly what they were doing when they made coded statements that suggested that people listening should do violence to blacks. As to increases in threats from members of the extreme Right, that's Department of Homeland Security talking. Which isn't to ignore the fact that 30 years ago, there was lots of talk of violence by the extreme Left. People have to take responsibility for their words--whether it's Governor Palin, Daily Kos, or Malcolm X.

Yes, people are ultimately responsible for their own actions. That is how our legal system works. But they also ought to take some responsibility for their words and the influence their words have.

Impossible to dismiss the signs at Tea Party rallies about Obama as not say they are racist. I'd choose #1 with a caveat on "sizable" because I have no data on proportions.

I've found Google docs to be quite good and very usable in a 15 person organization of non-geeks. Generally people take to it quickly and find it highly effective as a collaborative editing tool. The new online Office appears to be better, but I haven't used it enough to be sure.

RTM works great for BlackBerry too: there's an RTM app for BlackBerry. It gives you task-sync w/o use of Outlook and w/o use of a BBerry Enterprise Server. And with the Firefox add-on, BlackBerry task-sync with your GMail account as well.

While I'm given to agree with all of this and am (and have always been) an atheist, happened to be reading this Taleb interview today: "Take away religion, [Taleb] says, and people start believing in nationalism, which has killed far more people. Religion is also a good way of handling uncertainty. It lowers blood pressure. [Taleb is] convinced that religious people take fewer financial risks. " So religion is a hedge against nationalism???
