EXACTLY... just what I said... ;-) "...to put things back to the way they were", BEFORE meeting Kate. Same thing as 'forget about/never be hurt by', right?

It was NOT my 'interpretation of the show'! That's the point: it was a reply to another poster )Jenn, and HER comment on the final moments, and how it emotionally impacted (some of us more so than others...we're 'girls' and LIKE THAT, you know)....That you didn't 'get' that from our two emotional 'sharing' posts... well, that tells a LOT. It was NOT an interpretation inviting your critique; in fact, most comments here don't expect, need or want critique or judgement AT ALL.

It was a rhetorical question, and one that invites comment in a loose, statement-more-than-question kind of way. I'm a writer AND aced every English class I've ever taken, from 1st grade to college, so do not need some self-inflated twit telling ME that MY words "might be poorly constructed". This is a COMMENT board, not a thesis showcase, and we speak in conversational, sometimes colloquial, 'voice', in defense of my writing style in the afore-mentioned post... Further, at the TIME, I was being careful (call it habit) not to be overly upfront with details, in case others were still watching the show (which is obvious from several other posts, that some had not seen the ending yet). No one here needs a second-grade teacher GRADING their POSTS for style or grammatical construction, for Pete's Sake... shoo, shoo.... PLEASE.

Okay... so what was 'stupid' about my questions? The time thing (never knowing what happened because it's prevented from happening), or that Juliet, dying in the dark, wet pit, realizes that the undetonated bomb is sitting right beside her and that, at that moment, she is the only one who can finish the job (destroying the island and its destructive powers)?? I don't mind criticism or debate, but I cannot respect a one-liner that means and says NOTHING but allude to the immaturity of its author...

isotope: Did you watch this to the end? Jacob is Jacob, but LOCKE is not Locke: he is the 'adversary' Jacob was talking with on the beach (some hundreds of years before, with a galleon, the Black Rock, in the distance), the guy who expressed how he wished he could 'kill' Jacob, implying there was some reason he COULDN'T.... He said he'd find a 'loophole', and he did.
Parallels in history, of course. Notably Christian history. Esau was the wicked brother to his twin, Jacob (the 'good boy' of the pair), and furious that his younger brother wound up with his birthright (that of being the 'older' of the two), and that he was to 'serve' his 'younger' brother. We're all openly wondering about the reason for, the significance of, the pair of men on the beach, some hundreds of years earlier; one we discover is Jacob, the other, unnamed, shares aloud his thusfar impotent desire to kill the other... and that he will 'find a way', a 'loophole', if one exists.

I think Jack is simply in so much PAIN, that, in his desperation to 'rid himself' of that pain he will do ANYTHING to put things back to the way they were, when he only had the relatively benign task of burying his father to deal with... Grief creates some pretty strange 'rationale' in people's decisions and motives...

THANK YOU... I couldn't put my finger on it and it was driving me crazy that I had to reference it so crudely... Yep. The shipwreck, seen in Season 4, I believe, crashed in the jungle...? I remember being surprised at the time, because I thought the Black Rock would be just that, some large cliffside boulder or something....

EXACTLY. Funny, ain't it, that when Jesus raised Lazarus of Bethany from the dead, it was in "The Gospel of John" (Locke?)... :-) Just thought I'd mention that... You gotta love the WRITERS of this show... I wish I could sit and spend a few hours (or days?) just discussing all of this with THEM...

Travis, I LOVE IT... The whole 'fountain of youth' thing... YES. I can see this being something to do with TIME, and eternal life, because those two things have come up in spades, the past season or two... Jacob and JE (Esau? I LOVE that suggestion, too) as the Guardians, bored and disillusionedwith their 'task', JE wanting it ALL, Jacob stoically remaining sane and calm, keeping 'free will' and 'choice' as his honor points...

to Elle: Rose and Bernard are NOT in the 'present'; they, and everyone else who was on the island after the Oceanic Six left, have gone through those same 'time-flashes' that landed everyone else into 1974-1977. Perhaps this is why, that too many lives are caught up in a time not their own, when the Oceanic Six returned, it was 'not enough' to pull everyone back together into the present (2007)... Rose and Bernard (and Vincent, the golden Lab, Yay!) lived for 3 years without even knowing what YEAR it was, I'm thinking... Remember, everyone was NOT 'together' when the first time-flashes started (remember, many were waiting on the beach for the life raft that never came for them, from a ship they saw blowing up out at sea?). So it stands to reason that there are not only Rose and Bernard around, but that, somewhere else on the island, the rest of the passengers may survive, as well; they experienced the time-flashes just as Sawyer, Juliet, etc., only they spent the last 3 years from 1974 to 1977 staying to themselves, and away from a Dharma enclave they still didn't understand or trust... Jin, I still don't understand, unless he jumped off the exploding ship in the nick of time to save himself and, in the waters off the island, was close enough to be caught up in the 'move', too... In my understanding, the ONLY ones who weren't involved in all of the 'time-flashing' were the Oceanic Six (Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sayid, Sun, etc.). When the O-6 tried to 'come back', they were supposed to try to recreate that flight and circumstances... but they couldn't, so several were zapped into the island in its past form (1974), while the others (Sun, Ben, the pilot, Illana, etc.) landed in the present. I believe this explosion/energy release, along with Jacob's 'death', may bring everything together into the present. Not sure what kind of 'present' it's going to be, though...

Jon, not to nitpick, but... Christianity comes from 'Christ', meaning Christians follow GOD through HIS SON, Jesus Christ. Christ, the Son, was crucified, then was resurrected 3 days later. God was never 'dead'. His SON, in his mortal shell, was. And God would have destroyed ALL, but his Son had beseeched him, with his dying breath, to FORGIVE US, for we did not know what we were doing (to paraphrase)... Anyway, I, too, like you, often find there to be metaphors that evoke a parallel to Christian history. I just don't see that much of a parallel with the LOST storyline... or, at least, yet. Just my humble opinion... ;-)

William, Rest assured, you're understood. This is the very angle many of us ARE discussing, that Jacob and JE are otherworldly, perhaps reluctantly so, and immortal, and unable to be killed by the other. The loophole sounds like the weakness in their immortality might be that a mere mortal CAN 'choose' to kill them... And we're also left to believe that Jacob represented 'choice' and 'good', with JE being the yin to his yan, dark, murderous, determined and manipulative...

Maybe because it would take a 'mortal' of sorts to do so? That they could not kill each other? Jacob seemed to be the voice of conscience, light, of choice... Perhaps JE was a darker thing, like despair, or hate unfulfilled? Their conversation, on the beach, watching the galleon approach, intimated as much ("Do you know how badly I wish I could kill you?" said JE (Jacob's Enemy) to Jacob). Perhaps this is why Jacob kept himself so reclusive, so out of reach, that, like an Achille's heel, he was immortal but COULD be killed by a mere mortal. So JE USED Ben to do what HE could not...? Just ruminating...

Jenn: I was THERE, too, crying and HURTING and knowing 'it was all over' at that moment, and all she could do then was finish what so many had already DIED to do... So, if someone 'dies' in 1977, when their BIRTHDATE (in real time) is something like 1979... then they will go through life NEVER KNOWING, as their plane crosses the Pacific/Atlantic ocean on some flight between some vacation, here and there, what DID happen, in 'another life', when that plane crashed (only it doesn't, so they won't know)...uh, okay, this may take me a few years to figure out... wow.

Fandom: UNLESS, the release/capping of the mass energy is moot in that the island (and everything on it) was annihilated with the detonation of the H-Bomb? This would mean Juliet would never have been invited to the island (because it wouldn't exist in her 'real' time, later, in the 90's, having been blown off the face of the Earth in 1977)... Anyway... What a MIND BLOWER of a season end... I don't even want to think anymore about the 'time' thing (will everyone be doomed to live and die within a LOOP in time, now? etc.): I'm in shock about LOCKE, and discovering he is Jacob's 'adversay' island-mate from a long, long time ago (unreal, aas they sat on the beach and watch the old many-masted Galleon approaching), who is somehow 'unable' to kill Jacob himself (per their conversation). WHO ARE THESE TWO? Angels, perhaps, doomed to 'guard' some secret 'Eden' or 'tree of life/knowledge' together? The sky's the limit now... Now we must live our lives LOST-less until next year, wondering...
