I'm sorry. Did the story run in the Nation or the Onion.?
The Foxtrot cannot be emphasized enough. Unbelievable!
As a white American I've come to the realization that the only way western values will survive is if political correctness is discredited and destroyed. Smarter men than I will have to figure out how that is to be accomplished. It may eventually happen naturally but we cannot afford to wait. I feel that there are enough likeminded people of European descent that, if we were to work together, we could affect the kind of change that would preserve our heritage and ensure its continuation for the next several centuries. We must. A grassroots movement has started forming in the States that I hope will one day become the framework for accomplishing such goals. The two major parties consistently flout the will of the electorate, yet the majority of voters continue their loyalty to them. The parties have become nothing more than hosts for parasitic special interest groups which do not have the common good in mind. I'm sorry to stray a bit off topic but I believe it's all related. The media complicity makes it doubly hard to achieve lasting change but we must either find a way or make one. It is a basic natural law the an organism that does not assert itself in the pursuit of its own interests will perish. Assert yourself.
I'm sure many of you watched Glenn's show yesterday. I thought he made a very interesting point about not getting caught up in the current news cycle and taking a longer term view of things. I've seen several posts here about Sarah Palin's feud with David Letterman. I, myself, was upset by Dave's comments and the continuing double standard in the MSM regarding like occurrences. However, I think we need to acknowledge these things when they happen then move on. It amazes me how many people are still hung up about whether or no Obama is a legal citizen of the U.S. We'll never get anywhere if we keep the focus on such issues. The chance of getting traction on issues like that is substantially less than marginal. I'm as lost as anyone about how to wake up the rest of the country, but if we're going to reach out it will have to be by appealling to the common sense of others not by getting caught up in fringe or peripheral issues.
It's time to pour into the streets and strike fear into the heart of every politician from the local dogcatcher to the president of the United States. We should do it peacably, but we should also make our frustration as apparent as possible. The Tea Parties are great and I support them 100%. However, there is often a sort of festive air about them. We cannot wait until the mid-term elections in 2010 to take action. We need to make those currently sitting in Washington fear for their political lives and realize that no one is safe from being voted out. The only way to do that is to make our voices heard. We need to tell them plainly and in huge numbers that they act against the will of the people at their peril.
I posted these suggestions earlier under another thread with regards to electing a panel/council, etc.. I did receive some feedback regarding weighted voting. I'd like to get some additional input on this.
Conducting the voting through this site will be no easy task. Here is one way that it can be accomplished: We can have candidates post their announcement of candidacy message. The first line of the message should follow a very specific format which we can discuss at a little greater length. It does not need to be complicated but it does need to be easily identifiable at a glance. Any message that does not follow the format would not be considered in the election process. After that line the candidate should include their real name on a single line. The candidate should post a short bio consisting of no more than three lines. After that the candidate should post their opinions on the issues. This is obviously the most important information in making a decision whether or not to support a given candidate. Once the message is posted someone can vote for the candidate simply by replying with the word "yea." Now there is the potential for fraud. Someone could create multiple accounts to vote for themselves etc. New accounts would have a rep of 0. So we could tally all 0 reps at a value of 1 and all other member votes tallied at their actual rep score. Some may argue that this weighting is unfair.I believe it is fair because it gives more active and reputable members a greater voice and recognizes their contributions. So, the candidacy announcements should be posted on a specific day and terminate a few days later. Perhaps they should begin on a Monday and terminate at midnight the Friday of that same week. Any votes received after the deadline will not be counted. There is no way to gauge the volume of voting in advance. We can designate a few people to tally. Posts are sometimes hard to find on this site. Tallying may be a daunting task but voting in an open forum gives all of us the ability to audit the results. This is by no means perfect but considering the tools we have it is one option. Please let me know your thoughts.
Erika,
I will do everything I can to help provide momentum for your efforts. In regards to electing a panel, I posted some suggestions as a reply to one of Aspade's posts. I will find it and repost here under this thread. Do yourself a favor and ignore nay-saying messages. Those voices of reason do nothing to further our cause. If people choose not to participate we'll just step over them and keep marching. I'm no Little Mary Sunshine by any stretch of the imagination but I believe if just a few of us work together we can build some momentum. It won't be easy but I think a fair amount of dedication and patience will bear us some fruit. I don't expect a significant number of members of this site to sign on to these efforts initially. We have to take this one step at a time and the first step is to provide a basic leadership structure. I've seen the complaints of those who have "tried" to organize on this site and some of them have tried to advise you with respect to what they perceive as the pitfalls inherent in such efforts. Don't be discouraged by their failures. It may be a difficult task, particularly when most of us are here because we are frustrated and seeking direction. I think a lot of people want to take action but are unsure what action they should be taking. That is why some sense of leadership is critical. Again, I will do everything in my power to help build momentum for your efforts and work toward the noble ends which you've set forth in your post. Let's post under this thread as frequently as possible to keep it near the top.
Things stil seem pretty fragmented. I think there's a subtle power struggle here among a few factions. There is a need for real leadership to help this movement - for lack of a better word - become a cohesive unit. I think we can work to that end but there needs to be a sufficient number of people who are willing to be led. I am willing to whatever I can but without sufficient numbers it won't make much of a difference. There are factions which are here to promote their own efforts and have no desire to be incorporated into single effort or movement. I'm in and I'll take it as far as I can.
