Listen you absolute fuckwit, As you would probably be aware if you didn't have your head shoved so far up your arse that you still felt the need to asterix swear-words and write comments that amount to little more than "bet you won't publish this!! LOL," we all have exams. As a consequence of having exams, the tab editors do not have the time to sift through the drivel that people like you post on this website and approve them all as soon as they are posted. There is a backlog of comments going back a day. The ones at the top get approved first because they come up first and are therefore easier to see. Unfortunately reasonable comments get buried under ones written by people like you who want to make sure that their initial comment was published. There is unfortunately no group of moderators who can ensure that pedantic little cunts like you get to have your say immediately, there are editors and editors are busy with exams at the moment. In the 14 hours between your first comment and your little follow up, most people were asleep or working. The Tab is running a pretty extensive exam term service, but without the means of a 24-hour Indian call centre, the tab is unable to answer your every beck and call. So wait your fucking turn.

I don't think 1976 is particularly relevant to what the protesters are complaining about. No one is saying "do away with the international financial institutions." The point is that in their dealings with developing countries (i.e. less powerful states), the IMF has often behaved irresponsibly and in fact stifled development and encouraged political instability. For example, I recommend you read Peter Uvin's Aiding Violence, a book about the role of international aid and the IMF's structural adjustment programme in facilitating genocide in Rwanda. Or Andy Storey's article here:http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/ftinterface~cont...

The Tab - www.cambridgetab.co.uk - All the latest Cambridge University news online : The State of the Union

I believe it's spelled Dr. Ourke... My point is that the Union, as a supposedly forward-thinking and self-confident institution, should have the courage to celebrate something for its own sake, rather than worry about tabloid reactions. The day that the Union attempts to 'spin' its events in order to escape criticism is a sad day for anyone who believes in acting out of conviction. A speaking Union is the last institution you'd expect to worry about offending people. I never suggested that they should take a 'highly sexualized approach' as you imply, I'm saying that the Union shouldn't seek to conceal the mildly sexual element out of fear of offending people. No one has criticised them, and yet they feel they have something to answer for. It's self-censorship, and you'd expect better from a society which is supposed to be a medium for free speech.

The Tab - www.cambridgetab.co.uk - All the latest Cambridge University news online : All I Want For Christmas is: an end to the shallow, image-obsessed, X-Factor culture

i agree with a lot of what u said. Like i said in the article, Rage are on the same label as Joe McElderry - they\\\'re not that much of a smash capitalism group really. I\\\'m not saying Rage winning would actually change anything but it would be a nice suprise to discover that while everyone has little in common, the few things we can all loosely get behind aren\\\'t just manufactured drivel. The fact is that ratm wrote their own songs, and did it not just for pursuit of money. They weren\\\'t just cooked up based on analysis of what people liked. I know the idea of anarchy which they preach is all a bit of an image, but at least they actually preach it. Don\\\'t agree about the social networking being coercive point. Surely this shows its (admittedly limited) democratic power as a way of expressing opinion. OK people are apathetic, and its hardly a massive statement to click on a button, but without social networking no response would be possible at all. Basically I concede that rage against the machine winning would make a very limited point but that\\\'s all i\\\'m looking for - i don\\\'t want to smash the system, it\\\'s just nice to see some recognition that we all have more in common than being able to tap our feet to an average tune - that being popular doesnt mean being lowest common denominator

I agree the charts are hardly a predictor of quality. But I also refuse to buy the argument that because society is so fragmented, there can't be such a thing as good taste today. There's no reason why money's very neccessary and inevitable involvement in the music industry should entail a weak, lowest common denominator product. The whole point i was trying to make is that who rage against the machine are is irrelevant, the song was chosen just because it stands in stark opposition to Joe McE's song, mainly in terms of content. Buying it is not an endorsement of anarchism or a vote for anything to do with RATM, it's simply a vote against having Simon Cowell's drivel peddled to us. The movement behind it is about saying that while we're all different, a large number of us (a silent majority) are sick of being forcefed X-Factor Pop on tax-funded radio, terrestrial television and everywhere else we look. Facebook is a far more democratic medium than an appearance on one of five (arguably four) decent channels available to most people. There's not much democratic about terrestial TV, particularly when it's packaged the way x-factor is. It's not as simple as saying "you can always turn it off."
