Coram Deo : Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix and the Asus Eee 1000he

Some day... when I actually get a Netbook, I'm definitely giving the UNR a whirl. Although Windows 7 is a damn nice OS. But Karmic is so slick looking and actually "feels" good to use. It's the first desktop Linux release that has actually been really tight in my opinion. That hundred paper cuts project has done wonders for user interface and usability.

Indigo Spot : Start Simple

WD, Thanks for the compliment on the site. I, for one, am glad that you got a MacBook and began writing online. I'm looking forward to your return, but I am enjoying the week of Writer Mom's perspective. She's passionate about education, and I believe we need more people like you and her in the United States to make our education system better. Never put down your pen (or your Mac). Be well.

Indigo Spot : iPhone OS 3.0

It becomes more and more functional for you the longer you have it. Of course, any well-designed gadget can become integral to your daily routine, so I'm not trying to push it on you. The iPhone is certainly worth getting. Of course, there may be some new hardware announced this summer, so don't jump the gun. At the very least, I can see them offering a higher capacity 32GB model if not something with more bells and whistles.

Actually, as long as the domain name doesn't change, you should not need to export the comments. IntenseDebate stores the comments in their database so it should be as simple as installing the WordPress plug-in. Of course, I'm not sure what field they reference for tying comments to the posts. If it is title, don't change those, but I have a hunch they reference the post ID in which case, just make sure you make matching IDs for each of the new WordPress posts. A pain in the butt either way, it sounds like. Hmm... Ah! Export the comments to the WP comment system and then pull them back into IntenseDebate? Hmm... seems like that might be just as problematic. In any case, good luck and don't lose my comments! :)

Thanks, Hayden! Aside from this wicked flu/cold/somethingreallyawful which refuses to go lightly, life is on an upswing. We have a lovely vacation planned in April as well, so that adds to the fun.

Thank you, WD. Yes, the engagement is still such an amazing feeling to me. I know that the wedding will be even more awesome. Meeting the right person after all of these years and having such a wonderful life with her is terribly fulfilling. There are no words to describe it. At least not in my meager vocabulary.

Thank you, Matthew. The environment is a bit of a culture shock, but that's only because of the size difference in the organization. I'm adapting fairly well.

That's a fun version of "Let My Love Open the Door". Doesn't beat the Pete Townshend original, but still pretty good. After seeing the movie "Dan in Real Life", that's all the song reminds me of now. Good movie, by the way.

Me, too. Particularly if I am in a rush. The only online retailer that could re-build a clone of me from my profile is probably Amazon, but there's a trust relationship there that was built over a lot of time.

Indigo Spot : Into The West

No kidding. Did it ever have small print. The awesome thing was how easy it was to get drawn into the story. Then again, I'm not saying anything new about Tolkien. I have met a couple people who do not like his writings at all, though, so I suppose it's not all sunshine and roses, eh? Thanks for stopping by, WD. Best wishes on Mia's birthday. You have a great weekend, too.

Great photos. I'm still looking through all of them. It would be nice to have comments on some of them. I need a bit of a guided tour to know what some of the places are. You might look into SmugMug for hosting the high res versions. Can't remember what the free account limitations are as I have a Pro account there, but if you do enough photography, a Flickr or SmugMug pro account is worth having, and relatively inexpensive. Of course, if your host has the space and bandwidth, just slap the big ones up here. I'll make a list of photos that I'd like. There are some really cool gardens? or perhaps just ruins and such that I wouldn't mind having. Talk to you soon.

Sal, It's great that you were raised bilingual. Spelling errors are very forgivable when the person speaks multiple languages. As for films, thank goodness for Netflix, or I would be spending a lot of money on them. With Netflix, I get to watch and re-watch as many times as I want. Plus, I found that a lot of foreign and indie films are available to watch online, which is cool.

Tony, I was lucky enough not to get sick while on that cruise. That would have ruined my vacation. As it was, I was able to enjoy all of the food I could, and more, and had a fantastic time. Veganism was not bad, but there has to be a healthy "middle of the road" somewhere. Everything in moderation, right?

Thanks, WD. I am going to try to use the white space to my advantage in the final design. I think I might have Men With Pens do a drive-by, too. I read their write-up of your site and found some great information in there. If you have any tips and tricks, please don't hesitate to drop me a line or a comment.
