I went again on Monday for lunch. Just as good! Excellent beef. Grass fed I believe. about a third full one week in for a restaurant with no menu and no options. Ballsey. I am still impressed at the daring approach. Tarte Tartin for dessert was a little disappointing, to their credit they took it off the bill. Lacked a little caramelisation and crispness and the pastry just wasn't there. Not bad as such, but just not what a restaurant this sexy deserves to serve.

Just tried out Tao Yuan. refused to give dim sum menu, two options available on the main menu. Dim sum was mediocre. Service is truly rubbish. Main of Beef Oyster sauce, was tasteless. disappointed. A pity

Never underestimate the potential joy of good street type junk! Plastik food is not the goal here, but food on the go. My pinnacle of the genre was a calamari kebab in the streets of Istanbul. Americanised, homogenised franchiseable schlock is the bad side of this coin.

Somehow I had never been before this week! The ambiance was decidedly real. What a surprise for the usual expectation of triumph of style over substance. Food harmless to good at a VERY harmless price for the quality. What a surprise. An unexpectedly good, real "dive". I will be back. If you love Vasco's this will be your thing
