Yep, wait and see -- and hope this isn't just Lickliter Liter.
While Iowa was losing to another less-than-major team last night, I watched Steve Alford's New Mexico team blow away its in-state rival, NMSU. There was some evidence that several of the Lobos had been coached; they knew where to go and what do do when they got there. One of them made seven 3's in just the first half. Now, I had nothing but criticism for Alford when he coached Iowa, but. . . . .
Alfraud is indeed the Great Satan in the demise of Iowa basketball to its lowest point in the memory of this observer, who has been a Hawkeye hoops fan since Murray Weir and Chuck Darling played. But evidence mounts that Lickliter is not the man to restore the glory. We should wish him well at the coaching level at which he is comfortable, and bring in a man (or woman!) who can recruit Big Ten caliber athletes and teach them to play Big Ten caliber basketball.
