It's(apparently) not in Cabela's business model to locate these stores in major urban centers-probably because property taxes are lower-also they likely receive some sort of breaks from the cities they put them in-they do create a fair amount of employment-plus-they are in fact, tourist attractions-(I've been to 5 of these across the U.S and you see license plates from all over in every one and people are taking pictures outside all the time) They can be a major economic boost in a smaller center and stores like this are courted by local governments.

Also in Portland there's likely more direct competition(Sportsman's Warehouse) plus all the little camping ,fishing and hunting shops...

...It's not government(tax payer) money-the article says it's a fellowship-which was set up by the wife of the founder of IBM-to promote education, other cultures and arts...I know some people(unfortunately) find these things disturbing......

Own The Podium ISN'T just about winning...you seems swayed by B.S in the British media-it's about having pride in our athletes-no matter what the sport-where, unfortunately we lag behind other countries-and a little pride never hurt anyone...

Any hockey fan over 35 remembers all to well the days when "the communist bloc" countries-for the most part (save the U.S's 1980 "Miracle on ice")-ruled the Olympic hockey word thanks to their "amateurs"-taking NHLer's out of the picture would backfire massively-especially if the KHL continued to free up their players as no doubt they would, especially considering the media reports today that a major Russian political party wants "heads to roll" considering their "poor showing" thus far in Vancouver...Hockey is a major draw for North Americans especially to the Olympics in general. To go back to the days of sending NHL cast-offs,has-beens and never-was(es) won't set particularly well with Hockey Fans in Canada, the U.S and the Nordic Countries(Sweden & Finland) as well.I'm thinking Bettman's motivation is more over concern about injuries perhaps.I personally don't recall any loss of momentum or fan interest due to the Olympics.
