I, too, donated to Rachel's cause because the story touched me so much. It is wonderful that Rachel's parents will get to go see the impact Rachel has made. She touched many, many lives... not only over there, but here as well.

They will definitely have to do something about this if it's true that train traffic might grow to 100 trains a day. That will wreck the ferry traffic. Underpass seems like a good idea all around. There are multiple parks, restaurants, condos and businesses on that side of the tracks, not to mention tourists and other pedestrians who cross the tracks regularly.

A coward until the very end. As much as I would like to have seen him suffer at least the public does not have to pay for an expensive trial or for jailing this dude. And I am very glad he did not try to take any law enforcement with him. Glad everyone is safe (except, of course, for his wife and daughter, may they rest in peace).

It's a voluntary tax that also enhances safety. Don't like it? Don't run a red light!

You took the words out of my mouth. This is exactly the type of situation state assistance is for. I had the same thing in my family. My mom was a stay-at-home mom when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. He was fired from his job because he was too sick so my family had to go get some state help while he went through chemotherapy. My mom immediately went back to school and work. She earned her MBA because she knew she had to take care of her family and sick husband.

Ultimately, we need the state assistance for when those unforeseeable events happen. But there are too many people taking advantage of it. Maybe the woman in the article has a similar story to mine but for each person who legitimately needs help it seems like there are a dozen more lined up to game the system.

And I would argue that it's the religious right who don't want anybody to use birth control so that they can give birth to loads of kids to maintain their conservative voting base.

Right, because people like Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich provide such amazing examples of marriage.
