Well ... not saying this guy has a case, but there is precedent for another guy named Barnett getting a nice chunk of change from the university on his way out the door.

Benson has increased donations and grants. His supporters use those numbers to bolster their claim that he has been a success, basing their assessments on "business" models. But if the university is indeed a business, its customers are the students (and their parents), correct? In-state students have seen a 61 percent increase in the cost of their tuition since he became CEO of the "business." Cost of the product has increased dramatically; the value of the product -- i.e. CU's national academic ranking -- has remained stagnant. A state university should provide opportunity for students from that state to obtain a relatively inexpensive, quality education. That is not the case at CU. How can this be deemed "success"? Any story judging the performance of a university president that does not include the basic economics of tuition costs during his/her tenure is incomplete. This was a press release, not a comprehensive analysis of the Benson era.

I seldom check into the Camera after leaving Boulder years ago, but a colleague sent me the link. First impression: sad. If I remember correctly, the Dark Horse was a faithful advertiser in the Camera. The Camera has rewarded that loyalty with a swift kick to the groin by a mouthy journo wanna-be who is seeking attention. "Look at me, look at me, I picked on the Dark Horse!" The Camera will reap short-term benefits via website hits, but the long-term damage will be much greater, as I'm guessing the Dark Horse owner will quickly pull advertising (and suffer no ill effects). This is simply the latest example of what was once a very good newspaper slipping ever deeper into the morass of irrelevance.

Ringo got it half right. It's about business. Tradition is little more than sentiment, a self-indulgent clinging to the past. Performance is the only standard. Get over it.

"he shrugged his shoulders and waved at some of the supporters who had gathered in the courtroom." Just curious ... what kind of crowd did that entail?

Moving from the center of the city to a nondescript office park that is close to absolutely nothing. Brilliant move.

The Camera has been marching steadily toward irrelevancy for the past 10 years. This is another major step.

Wow, an outdoor story that doesn't talk only about the author and his/her life and exploits. Much better than the simpering fool of a woman that writes that dreck.
