I think someone should acquaint Sam Allardyce with the definition of madness: "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".

West Ham Till I Die : Ten Things We Learned From Today

Bit off topic but...I was ill over the week-end so watched a lot of games on the telly. I've been concerned this season with the very non-PL looking capability of our squad (although completely agreeing with those who point out we need to concentrate on getting up first). However on the evidence of the week-end, our team would have outplayed Arsenal, given Liverpool a good run, probably held Spurs and walked all over Wolves. COYI!!!

West Ham Till I Die : Coming Soon: In Conversation With David Sullivan

Well done Iain for your persistence in getting through to him. Splendid job. I've never been a fan of this administration so that makes the prospect of reading your interview all the more intriguing. I'm sure I speak for us all here when I say I can hardly wait! Good luck with transcribing it all!

West Ham Till I Die : Scruples: Who's the Baddie?

Off topic but you are so right about Upson. I see that not only has he failed to get in to the Stoke first team, there was a rumour I saw somewhere that he was being shipped abroad.

West Ham Till I Die : Allardyce Warns Carew & Piquionne

Not sure berating your players in public is a good idea but most things Sam gets up to seem to be considered so I guess there must be some method in it. Agreed we have a great opportunity this afternoon with the Saints slipping up last night but we have to watch our backs. Boro are right behind us and have an easier game than us against Peterborough today. I think dropping below the automoaic promotion slots with a squad down to its bare bones (sorry 'Arry) with injuries and suspensions would be a real psycological blow to us right now.

West Ham Till I Die : Andy Johnson, John Carew or David Ngog?

All the recent messages that have emerged pre-season seem to suggest Sam has re-generated some squad morale - which is great news when we are looking to attract players.. I agree with the comments above that, for one reason or another, the likes of QPR, Norwich, Wolves, Wigan and Newcastle (and I would add Blackburn) don't seem to be more attractive than WHU at the moment as far as career moves go so let's hope we can attract the best available which to my mind, rules out both Carew and Johnson. Ngog might be worth a punt but is he better than Nouble? Off topic but...isn't it great to have silence from the likes of Sullivan and Brady. Let's hope they keep their opinions to themselves for the next nine months.

West Ham Till I Die : What is Needed in the Summer Transfer Window?

Glad to be able to tell you Jim that you can relax. My friends in the telly business tell me she's fallen out with the producers (she was too arrogant in her demands apparently - there's a surprise eh?) and has been dropped from the programme.

West Ham Till I Die : Should We Sell Carlton Cole

No-one has bid for Parker yet because they will wait until we are desperate to sell him (we can't afford his wages and we have already replaced him with Nolan). They're biding their time...the potential purchasers like the Spuds will be waiting to see how much of their own midfeld they have left before they come in for Parker - also they'll need the OS pot to come off the boil before contacting us. Can you imagine the reaction they'd get now if they approached us for any player let alone our best. The transfer window has a long way to go yet - it has only been open for seven days and there are eight weeks left so there's a lot yet to come.

West Ham Till I Die : The Triumph of Substance ....

Aussie, I could never ever be described as a supporter of Gollivan and Brady - far from it - but I think it's only fair to judge their performance this transfer window at the end of it rather then before it has begun.

I could not agree more. Why is the move from Upton Park - if strictly necessary - entirely linked to the OS? The Icelanders (let's remember that their hearts were in the right place. OK they left the club in a mess but it wasn't entirely their fault the Icelandic economy fell over so completely) were looking at alternative sights. The OS was certainly planned during their regin but they didn't think it was a viable option.

Tony you mean a sale and lease back deal which is usually done by companies who use their property assets to allieviate major cashflow problems (hotels and care homes as you say are good examples). It isn't a course of action to take unless it is strictly necessary because, no matter how you dress it up it's the sale of an asset (which you can only sell once) and then landing yourself paying rent forever. The argument you put forward about the NEC is a sound one as a pure property investment, but it wouldn't necessarily be the right thing to do for Birmingham City FC. You can always borrow money on the strength of an asset (eg Upton Park). Virtually impossible to do on a lease (eg the OS). So the OS is a big big gamble and only really justifiable if the income is significantly better than from the existing asset (UP) year on year on year. Personally I'm not sure that's a gamble worth taking as there are too many issues (eg the retractable seating) that don't as yet have a solution.

So selling an asset and replacing it with something you don't own which puts you into further debt is good business is it? Don't know where you got your MBA mate but I'd give it back.

Bumped into a Brum supporter the other day who said that whilst Gollivan were not popular at Birmingham, it was easier for them than it is for us because Gold was the chairman and Sullivan was the number two. Sullivan mouthed off less as a result and Gold tended to pour oil on the choppy waters from above rather than from below as he does now which even my rudimentary chemistry knowledge tells me is less effective. The other thing he mentioned was the Brum supporters quickly cottoned on to the fact Gollivan were really only interested in the club for property reasons - they strongly attempted over a long period to take over the NEC for the club. Any similarities are, I'm sure, purely co-incidental.
