da_bride I had the same problem with an iPhone 3G running OS 3.0 using a Mac laptop running OS X 10.5.7. I could only successfully jailbreak using PwnageTool (latest release). I forgot to back-up before doing it and lost a recording that was personal, so you're a step ahead in that respect. :-)

Thx!! Also, do the push problems only apply to phones on T Mobile (i.e. hacktivated phones)? I have a 3G on AT&T and need to make sure push notifications and MS Exchange support won't be affected (I have my work e-mail and contacts on the device). I've searched and haven't found any reports of problems for push or MS Exchange on AT&T phones but just wanted to double-check.

Thx, angiepangie. Does that apply to 3G users running 3.0 as well? Can I use the IPSW in /library/itunes/iphone software updates when redsn0w asks me to identify the IPSW?
