this story was very interesting. i tought oeople that commited hard acts of crime would be more manly and not have emotiocions if they were able to commit murder. when i think of people who kill i usually think of guys who are big and come from a troubled family home and they are mad at everybody for thier horrible life and want other people to expierence thier pain which i find to be very shelfish. the fact that these people are in prision for the rest of thier life and it makes them change it shows that they are not really the reason behiend thier behavior it was the enviroment that they were raised in and the people who raised them.
the fact that two people who hated each other could come together when someone is in needed. it mnakes it seem as if they are wierd for killing somebody when they could help out a friend that they hated. the fact that they could help oot a friend now after being in prision for years they could have done the same to that person and not have ended thier life and take them away from thier families. the way these man are companisionate toward each other is very pleasing that they are afficonate shows a lot. i think it is better for people to stay in jail thier whole life instead of recieving the death pentaly. the fact that people are in jail their whole life overtime they will learn thier lesson and never want to commit a next crime and we learn that what they did was wrong. i cant not imange staying in jail my whole life and never be able to see my family or meet any new people or be able to leave the area. i recently ran into a friend that was in jail for three years and he seemed so lost from society he did not know how to operate a laptop and not how to use a cellphone and was wearing fashion from three years ago. as soon i saw him i knew that something had to happen to him because he just seemed so different from everybody else. i was also recently watching a mtv true life i have a dad in prision and he was gone for 20 years and had no real relationship with his son. and could not understand how his son took everything for granted, he could not understand how his son kept his room so messy that was huge and when he was in jail only had a tiny space and it was spotless.

I think that the play that was performed in class was good. The fact that they flipped it into a world that was obsessed with flat chest women made the play even more interesting. The part the stuck out to me the most was the part where the girl mention that her grandmother had breast cancer and she would benefit more from a breast reduction than she just getting it done to fit in. I think it is crazy that people receive plastic surgery in the first place it is crazy that you could be so depressed about your body that you would risk dying trying to fix it. The girl in class who said that she used to wear one of those things that keep you covered up and it was better because no one was looking at her boobs and no one even knew that she had them. I was recently the Jessica Simpson show, she went to Morocco, all the women there are covered up, and the only thing that you could see is their eyes. I understand the idea of it and all the women say that they want to do because they only want their husbands to look at their bodies. The girl in class also said that she is always getting stares at her chest so it is possible that some guys probably will want to talk to her for her breast but before when she was covered up it was all about her personality. On the show Jessica also mention that being covered up gave her a new confidence and it showed how powerful the eyes are and all the women going around smiling with their eyes.
In addition, Sam’s wife in class mention that today she sees the girls on campus walking around with less clothing. I think that it can be a bad thing because the girls who are overweight have more pressure to be skinny and walk around naked. Since the weather has gotten nicer, I think that it is appropriate to wear shorts and sundress but anything that shows your stomach is just tacky. For girls to be wearing such little clothing to class is absolutely crazy and usurped. If a girl is out at a club or a party then they can wear whatever they want. At a party you should be dressed in very nice clothing and probably very little clothing cause you want to get noticed I think it is expected for girls to show up at a party in short dress and tights not a sweater and a hoodie its just the way our society works.

A country that is as democratic as France for them to ban Muslim women from wearing abeyyas is crazy. It is part of their religion to wear this traditional attire when it public. The women are dressing in a very conservative fashion and I do not see why that should be a problem to anyone in France. The reason that most of these Muslim women are so covered up is that these women feel as if their beauty is only suppose to be seen by their husbands. When they are in their homes, they wear regular clothing and have their hair down to show their beauty to their husband and kid the only people that deserve to see it. I think that if the government were to ban the Muslim women from wearing burqas then they should ban all things that express religion. They should ban people wearing the cross or Jewish people wearing the Star of
David. Women usually dress very sexual and I think that is more dangerous than a women being covered up are. Females are practically naked when they go to beaches and pools and nobody will outlaw bath suits to be worn by women. At the beach, there are little kids and teenage boys all over the place and they are being seeing women naked. Women wear very little clothing all the time in order to get what they want but that is not outlawed. They walk around in high heels and sometimes no underwear and that is not illegal. Women not dressing appropriate are a bigger issue than a women deciding that they should be covered are.

It really shows by them banning Muslim women from wearing their traditional attire it shows how behind they are as a society that citizens are judging people so harshly by the religion that they practice. Most of these females that dress in these conservatives ways do not feel pressured from their husbands but want to dress like this. Many feel as if they want to do it even if there husbands do not want them to because it shows how much they respect their husbands. I think these females should have a freedom of religion and freedom of expression. I think that fact that they outlaw women could wear this go against women rights. With the France banning the wearing of abeyyas, I think that they will have many Muslim people leaving the country and returning to their native land or going to America. I think that the new law will not last long and soon they will have to get rid of it by the amount of people that will get prosecuted for wearing their religious attire.

The video that we viewed in class about whether kids would pick a white doll or a black doll extremely disturbing and hard to watch. I found it a little shocking that today most of the kids still would pick a white doll over a black doll.
I think I would have to go further into their families to see why they pick the white doll. I think it is a difference if the child grew up in a mixed environment or a mostly white environment. If the child grew up around mostly white people then the child would view black as being bad because he knows nothing about the culture. The same theory also goes if the child lives in an all black community. In most black communities, it seems as if all the black people are against each other. The black people going around putting down the blacks with dark skin, blacks that have short or nappy hair only the blacks that look close to white are praised. Having too many African American features you will always be put down by other black people this is the reason why the kids see being black as evil, mean and non-attractive.
Another factor that I put into consideration is how young the kids are it says something that they do not really have a good concept of race. When you are African American, it is easy to realize that you are different from the majority of the people. One girl in my discussion told a store about the daycare where she worked and all the kids were asked to describe each other and the first thing all the kids said about the black girl was that she was black. I remember when my brother was younger he described anybody who was black as being chocolate he knew he was different but just in skin color. Even today, he still does not understand the concept of race since he goes to a multi-racial school and since our last name is, brown it is confusing. He knows now that black people are referred to as chocolate but at ten with our last name brown, he thinks all black people are brown. Since these kids are the same age as my brother, they should have around the same ideas of race.
I also think that there are many psychology tricks and the way people ask or word the questions I find it hard believing study or polls accurately.
I think the video shows how little we have improved as a society and that we still have a lot of work to do before kids will not be able to see color.

I thought it was very interesting that Sam brought up the period topic because it had nothing to do with what the class was talking about. I do not think that it is appropriate to talk about periods because it is just nothing something that you should talk about with people that you does not know. I know if I am around my person friends are people that I know I have no problem talking about periods. If I am around strangers, I do not think I would bring up the topic of being on my period. I agreed with the comment the girl made in class about what would Sam’s wife would think if she knew he was making these comments to seven hundred students. I think that if Sams wanted to tell some of his friends about his wife period then it would be okay but to tell seven hundred students is somewhat crazy. I understood him when he was saying that he wants to see what it looks like when it is in the toilet because if I was a person I would be interested in it as well.
In my discussion group, we also had the conversations of periods. Most of the guys said they are okay with talking about it but they just do not want to know specific details. I also found it interesting when one of the girls brought up the fact that there are some guys that like to have sex with girls while they are on their period. I know this is so true but we only have two guys in my discussion group, the guys denied it. I think that they really like it but it is such a taboo that they are scared to admit it.
The topic was also brought up about how girls have an advantage over guys because they could always use being on their period as an excuse to get out of work or school. I think that after a person has a period for three years they can no longer use it as an excuse. I remember when I was younger and I had bad cramps my boss said to me that I should take a pill and continue to work. At the time, the job was a very small paying job, but when I got a better, paying job there was no way I would miss making money because I had craps.
I do not think talking about periods will ever be accepted in society its just one of the things that will always stay taboo.

I recently completed the census and I found it crazy that the word Negro was still on it. The options for black people were African American; black or Negro were all-ridiculous. I think that they should probably have emlinated African American and the Negro and just had the only option as black. The term black could be used for an African American person or somebody who refers to themselves as Negro.
I think in the year 2010 blacks should not be referring to themselves as Negro. Referring to yourself as Negro is like referring to yourself as a nigger, which shouldn't be done. I understand that some older people in the south still refer to themselves as Negro but its time for them to get up to date with recent times. The African American community is trying to get rid of the word nigger and the fact that some people are still referring to themselves as that word its going to be impossible to stop the use of the word. I don't think that if they deleted the word it would cause any confusion or make people fill out the census incorrectly. Anybody doing the census knows that black means African American or it could even mean Negro.
Just like how on the census the term white is used to refer to all white people. There isn’t a different option for Italian or polish they are all considered white. I am sure that some recent Italian immigrants or northern Africans feel more passionate about their countries but they have to put their pride aside and realize that they are white. The same could be done for African Americans the passionate people would just have to get over and consider themselves black for that moment.
I also don't think that the word African American isn’t necessary to have on the census. Since I have taken a sociology class I know that there is a difference between black and African American but I don't really think the vast majority of the in the United States know the definition. Like Sam mention in class that some blacks get really offended when people refer to them as African American so then there’s already two things that's offensive to people one the word negro and the term African American. The census should try to do all things possible that would not offend when you have the only option as white, black or Hispanic it would make things a whole lot easier and then there would be any problems.
That's is what I think should be done with the new census.

It is very interesting to me that this acts of racism are still going on today especially in a diverse state such as California. California is one of the most diverse states on the west coast. I don’t really think that people are becoming less racist. I think people are just more ashamed of having negative thoughts about certain ethnic groups. Deep down I think most white people feel as if they are superior to any minority groups. White people will never act out but they will always feel as if they are better because they are white. Not only white people feel as if they are superior some black people may feel as if they are better than Hispanics and Native Americans.
Some people who are committing these racist acts may not see it as disrespectful but just a harmless joke. Depending on who your circles of friends are it might just be something that is funny, but around a different group they might want to kill you for doing such a joke. Some white people when they are around there one black friend who has been brought up around white people might say really racist jokes. If the same person said the joke to a black person in the NAACP they would not find it assuming at all.
I remember when the popular radio DJ made the joke about the girl’s basketball team at Rutgers being some nappy head hoes he was fired the next day. This is a perfect example he is probably deep down really racist but he couldn’t really show it in public. The one time he did slip and say something that he probably thought was funny it cost him his career. When he is around certain black people he might have said that and everything would have been fine, but just the fact that he went on air and said it where thousand of people could hear what he was saying.
As for the students in UC one of the reading said that one of the noose that they found on campus was done by a minority. Some minorities do not know their history; do not know that doing certain things that they do are just making what their ancestors did seem pointless. The minority student that did make the noose was probably mostly friends with white people. That person was probably raised around white and received some of their views about race.
I think the UC University needs to have a week about diversity to stop the hate toward ethnic groups. That is the only solution that I could think of that will stop the acts of racism before they campus starts having hate crimes.

I agree that men and women have different desires in sexual needs. I really do not think that I know any female that would pay seven thousand dollars for a sex doll. I know since men have higher sex drives more than men it can get annoying when a man always wants sex. Speaking from a female perspective there is no most of us will spend seven thousand dollars on a sex doll to do that job for us. I also think most guy if their partner got them a sex doll they would realize that it was time to end the relationship. I also feel that if a guy felt that his girlfriend or wife could not fulfill his needs he would just find real women to cheat on her with. I also feel that this toy is a little bit degrading to females.
I also find it outrageous that guys are willing to waste their money on a sex doll. I can understand that some people who are older and shy might have a hard time finding a partner in real life, but to pay that much amount of money for a doll is crazy. For a person to be that shy that they cannot even find a girl to talk to is a sign that person might need some therapy. Males buying sex dolls like this will ruin our society by not making people deal with their issues they have with commitment or relationships. In addition, if these males ever find themselves in a relationship they will expect the person to be just like the doll when they get into a real relationship they may turn violent if the lady refuses sex from him.
If a man is willing to pay seven thousand dollars for a sex doll that has a negative impact on our society. It gives the idea to foreigners that America is so sex driven that they will pay to huge amounts of money with a fake person. The people with all that money should be doing something that would better the society like feeding the poor. There are plenty of people in need of basic stuff fir their families and a person with seven thousand can easily fulfill her needs.
Overall, I think this is one of the worst inventions of all time. It is true that people have a hard time finding people to have sex with but a doll is just ridiculous. I do not think that this product will be on the market for a long time. I am sure that it is only a matter of time before some group out there puts an end to the sale of the sex toy.

The fact that everything that people talk about it always ends up being a black/white issue it shows how people still have not overcome the things that went on in the civil rights movement. Some African Americans think that they are treated unfairly, so they feel some type of hatred toward white Americans. With the lecture on Thursday about how racism exists in the judicial system is it shows that white people will never have some of the same experiences African Americans have. When talking about race the African American will always feel that white people cannot really understand what is going on in the world because they have a white privilege. With all the differences in African American and white culture, some black people feel as if the civil rights movement is still going on.
In some places, the movement is still going on so black and white feel separated. When most people think, of the civil rights movement, they think of the 60s and Martin Luther King and they assume by the 70s everybody got along and everything was fine. That is far from the truth some places in the south didn’t stop segregation until the 90s. One school in particular had about equally amount of blacks and whites and still had a segregated prom in the 90s. Even in state college, things are not segregated, but there is huge tension between blacks and whites in schools. People are witness these racist acts going on in their life, so its only natural that they would have some type of feeling to people of the other race.
I think that it is time for it to stop we should be looked at as people and not white people and black people. I remember when Obama was running for president the biggest thing people talked about constantly was that if he won he would be the first black president. That really irritated me because I felt whether he was black or white should not even be an issue it should have been about what he stood for not the color of his skin. In our society, everyone is guilty of referring to somebody as that black person or that white person instead of people. In some black families to try to eliminate the use of color they are corrected when they saw oh that white person and told to use another description of that person. For some strange reason I do not feel like in white families kids are corrected when they refer to somebody by their race.
I don’t think this black and white issue will ever stop. Since now you have a new generation of people who are black and white I think it will make the issue die down so our kids wont be living in a world where everything is a black white issue.
