I agree, after the first dialogue scene, I knew the film wasn't going to deliver on the story end, but I did find some of the action/visuals satisfying.

It's a different cinematic approach for a different type of film. The shaky hand-held was a stylistic choice for those movies and wouldn't work as well in this situation. It has little to do with being an independent film.
