I love this site. No one is screaming about how evil or great The Patriot Act is. Just good old fashioned honest debate and discussion based on the law and the constitution.

This is insanity. This is all the MSM should be talking about right now. Thank you Jake Tapper.

Traveller...Louisiana is gaining jobs in the midst of a massive recession. It's not really surprising that the governor does not want to expand unemployment benefits when we have companies begging people to move to LA to fill open job positions. In my home parish the unemployment rate is 3.4% . Statewide is 5.7%. That's much better than the national average. If he is sitting on FEMA money it's because the Mayor of New Orleans (D) is too busy trying to figure out how to stay out of jail to tell him where they need the money.

The FairTax (www.fairtax.org) provides a prebate for spending up to the poverty level. So, low income families pay even less taxes (no payroll taxes), the middle class basically breaks even, and wealthy people will still pick up the bulk of the burden, but no one's money will be confiscated.

There's one problem with your argument Chuck. The first amendment states:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This is not a concert or a parade. This is a group of people peaceably assembling and petitioning the Government for a redress of grievances. Preventing it is unconstitutional. I do not believe this is a grand conspiracy. I believe that the town has legitimate concerns. I also believe that our rights are inalienable, and no government or corporation can take them away.

#4...Probably my favorite principle. I have a 16 month old son, and I am already trying to budget for private school!

I am 27 years old, and I would have no problem abolishing medicare and social security...with this caveat...Everyone born after 1979 (starting Jan. 1st, 1980) pays into the system their entire career, and does not receive the benefit upon retirement. Everyone before that date receives the benefit. The sad truth is that these systems will not be around when I retire anyway. My generation will be cleaning up the mess made by the baby-boomers and the Gen Xer's so why not start by phasing out these two bankrupt programs before they bankrupt the entire country.

1.) Pass the FairTax
2.) Pass the FairTax
3.) Pass the FairTax
4.) Support School Choice

I think a well educated generation that keeps the money they earn can do a much better job of growing this economy than the buffoons we have running our government.
