Constitutional requirements aside for the sake of this one argument....I assume this requirement was written because at the time there were no ways to determine how many people existed here.(it used to be many years ago that only adults were on the tax returns, at that time and before computers a census was the only way to count the people, then the # of dependants were added now name and ss # are required) Why are we doing a "census" at all? Can't the government get the information they need on number of persons, age and location already? from the IRS via tax returns???? Aren't all persons whether it be that one is a independant adult or a dependant on a tax return? And if someone is not filing tax returns they are not likely to answer any census question. What a huge waste of money in the current times. I for one will not answer anything other than the number of persons in my household and then only if they can get hold of me. There is no proof that I receive a survey in the mail and as far as I know there is still no law that requires that I answer my door for anyone much less a stranger that I do not know.
