Longmont Times-Call : FAA: Longer runway at Longmont airport could wait 10 years for funds - Longmont Times-Call

Oh Onion...my eyes, they weep. How about...All current Citizens Against Runway Expansion should be replaced. They antagonized and insulted the airport community and by their actions have no respect for the public. How do they have no respect for the public? By muddying the master plan process with ridiculous innuendo. And as for the airport board? They are much more patient listening to it all than I would be.

What is dubious is using class warfare to elicit outcries without facts in a down economy. It's not just the small corporate jets that would benefit from it's lengthening. Middle class families who use the current runway to fly in the smaller aircraft to travel, like those who use their vehicles, find that they are not able to top off their gas tank before departure from the Longmont Airport, so they have to fly to airports along the way and give away the taxable revenue that Longmont would have had by refueling elsewhere. By the way, have you ever heard the sound the smaller corporate jets make flying out of Longmont Airport? I recorded one once. Barely. It took out of here so fast and the ground level noise from those talking about it was at a higher decibel.

The ignorance from those who feel only millionaire fly boys own airplanes is amusing and often exasperating. It's not just millionaires who own airplanes, but middle class families who pay tax dollars into what funds airport improvement projects. If you fly...you pay. And if you pay taxes into an aviation fund...wouldn't you rather those tax dollars go back into the airport in your community than to fund the airport in another community?

Longmont also conducted a citizen panel a couple weeks ago in which we were given keypads to "vote" on how we thought the money from the CTF should be spent. City Council is supposed to get the results of that meeting sometime in Jan and it should be open to public hearing.

Lynsey Peterson is AWESOME. Everything she does, she puts her whole heart into. I first met her when she did a fundraiser for LEVI at Lefthand Brewery in 2009. Later, she also worked on a book with another photographer friend called "Notes Girls Write" and in it, was this very touching picture of Bray with a woman from H.O.P.E. named Dawn. HOPE is very fortunate to have Lynsey...and she them.

I'm not making stuff up to feel self important...I've spoken to people who cite real facts :) Many of whom, including the FAA, city, airport officials, airport users...have repeatedly told you that Mile High is not breaking any laws. If you want to work with them...signatures on petitions and harassment is not the way to come to a resolution. And you aren't just asking for a "review"...you are asking them to consider restrictions. If they are not breaking the law, there are no restrictions that the city can ask of them legally. And if they do, according to the FAA...they would have a problem with that.

Citizens for Quiet Skies want the Longmont City Council to now break the law? According to Linda Bruce with the FAA at a recent Airport Open House, "People don’t understand that airport users like Mile High Skydiving are legally doing what they are allowed to do. “Why would we discriminate against the guy who is following the rules?” While Mile High Skydiving might be the bane of existence for some neighboring critics, according to Linda Bruce "the city is required to treat all airport tenants equally...and the FAA will only take action if those neighbors convince the airport manager or the city to harass the tenants of the airport" (i.e. inserting hardships in lease, abnormal raising of rent). Because to attempt something that stupid would result in some loss of FAA funding of the airport. But, it also appears that Citizens for Quiet Skies want the city to do just that, because it would negatively impact the airport they love to hate on. I'm sure the FAA would be VERY interested to know what this group is now suggesting.

Are you selling your home? If so, I'd love to buy it. I miss living next to an airport. Especially if it plans to expand and grow. Love watching the airplanes and the skydivers :) My family and other families like mine have grown up around aviation, but I am not a pilot. I also grew up in CA and I know what real air traffic is having been around LAX and Long Beach Airport and I currently live in the air traffic pattern on the eastside of Longmont for high altitude arrivals in and out of DIA and often see the low flying Allegiant jet plane coming into Loveland Ft-Collins and often get many small planes sightseeing over Union Reservoir. But the fears put out about the Longmont Airport becoming so much more than it currently is are unfounded and for members of an anti-expansion airport group to use the image of a 747 as their group slogan is really silly. Because I am married to a career pilot and and air traffic controller, I consider myself to be educated on this issue and it's because I have taken the time to listen and learn about the issue. You can complain all you want and say there are only a "few" who support the airport and that there are "thousands" who don't...but I know that to be untrue. I think you have that reversed. Every poll I see put out there to random survey opinion about the airport says you are wrong. Overwhelmingly wrong. I was also just at a "Focus on Longmont" group mostly of non aviators and the airport received high marks from those who want the runway expanded, and businesses to grow there. I also give a heck of a lot more credibility and respect to those who spoke at a recent city council meeting when the airport master plan was on the agenda and would encourage anyone to watch and listen to what they had to say: http://65.49.32.143/presentation/longmont/1f44544...
