I have been frustrated when I think about the returns of the 'lost decade'. It is easy to think about what you haven't gained, but people also don't seem to remember that they (should) have been buying stock during those depressed prices too. That is also why you need to transition your money into things other than stocks as you get older and older. Gotta diversify so any one market variable doesn't wipe you out.

Love the layout!!!

I think many people spout of some of these money sayings to justify their own behavior. Money is not evil. Stomping all over people to make money is what is evil. Money can rescue people, make life easier, provide medication and shelter for people, etc.

I know that my husband would totally start his own business if it wasn't for fear of not being able to pay the bills. We don't have huge debt, but we have 3 kids, all in private school. Until the kids are out of the house, I feel like are choices are greatly limited. It will be interesting to see what happens in a 8 years or so as our house will be paid off and all our kids will be done with college.

Oh my goodness, I was just thinking about this very thing last night. Things have been a bit crazy for me lately, and money is the last thing I am worried about at the moment. You could say I am quite off track. I am not spending like a maniac or anything, but I am also not being as careful.

I can't believe I never left a comment on this one, even though I read it. Darn it, and so much of it has already been covered.

I will tell you right now when rates will go to zero - the month I make my final payment. :)

Thanks for the mention!

I don't believe that $182,000 number at all. Maybe it is because I live in Michigan and bad news seems to be all around me. Regardless, it sounds inflated to me (for an average).

You are talking to me again!!!

Because I grew up with nothing, I am always afraid to spend. You would think I was raised in the depression and lost everything. Therefore, I always feel bad if I buy something that isn't a 'need'. I worry that no matter how much money I have, I will never have the freedom to treat myself.

In addition, as a mom, I put my own needs dead last, which I know isn't healthy. I have heard a million times 'a happy mom makes a happy kid', but there just always seems to be something else that needs to be done. I am really working on this though, and have been going out a little bit more, and exercise is a huge priority for me. But, it is a process. I know I am happier when I take care of myself. However, yet again, guilt gets to me.

Great post!

I live on guilt. Guilt rules my life unfortunately. However, as I have gotten older, I don't commit to things I don't want to do as much as I used to.

Thanks so much for the link!!

Oh my gosh, I am so glad I was able to comment. (I had been having problems previously. I never seemed to be able to get the comment box. Must have been a personal problem.)

The 28 cents I have leftover when I am gone will equally be divided 3 ways, and it will not be distributed until they hit a certain age. I have no intention of leaving much money behind, assuming I die when I am older and the kids are out of college. I don't feel like I owe my kids anything, and I hope I live my life to the fullest. I may sound selfish, but I don't think that receiving large lumps of money is always the healthiest thing, especially if you are not ready for it.

I am worried about kids today in that many do not seem to want to work hard and earn their money. They are watching adults all around them get bailed out of their own financial circumstances that it is setting a terrible example. Kids will learn how to work the system and look for loopholes, that is for sure.

For us, doing just about any home repair ends up being more costly than if we just paid for someone to come do it. Not to mention the frustration, the fighting, etc!
