That's awesome. I know of a church in Greensboro that is living like that with Burmese refugees. Same focus... different peeps. I'm digging churches that act... well... Biblically? :-)

coLORAdo,

Great questions.

As far as the speaker... perhaps none of your options, perhaps all three.

As far as who is being saved, your examples are as good as any I could create.

The main idea here is less about resuscitation itself, and more about the concept of choice. When we are the rescued... the point is that we have personal responsibility and opportunity to choose our paths, be it harmful or successful. We can choose to be rescued or not. Our call.

As the rescuers, when we choose to reach a hand out to another to save them from drowning, we cannot make the endangered grip our hand.

I like your idea of a society. In our society, we have hundreds of television shows, books, and educational opportunities showing us how 'live better,' to get along, and to look better. The choice of how to live and whether to take any advice is still up to us.

I've known many addicts who've been through the same thing. In the past, I attempted to help, and would get frustrated when they didn't respond to my offers. People won't change until they're ready. That is usually when they know or hurt enough.

Again, good questions. And you're right, there is nothing simple about some of these issues.

Good call!

I have found that as I have become more selective with how I involve my Facebook buddies with conversations, the conversations have actually gotten deeper, interestingly enough.

Additionally, the more I think about it.... Does Facebook create more 'lurkers' or engaged members of a community?

1) Agreed, that it is the friend's house. Perhaps I am under the assumption that they should want you stay and form a relationship, otherwise why invite or offer dinner? :-) But you are correct. A person can stop visiting.

2) I believe you hit on a good point. "Once everyone realizes that really you can only keep in touch with about a dozen people on a deep level." Culturally, I believe we are far from this realization. We will have another decade of trying replicate the success of Facebook in forming community before we realize that community is something very different.......

Just ten more Facebook friends til I become cool. :-)

Perhaps the idea is to become more strategic like you're talking about. You do an incredible job of building community on Twitter, by the way!

I wonder if deleting Facebook would help or hurt you spreading the word about your cause?
