2 things I also saw this as a kid on TV and marked a turning point in my life. My parents took me to get glasses as I was right up to the TV squinting to read the subtitles. The scenes from this movie were running through my head years later as my wife and I were on our honeymoon touring the Arizona Memorial. I remember getting so angry as Japanese and German tourists were nearly pushing us off the dock to get on the dory out to the memorial.

you gotta wonder if he watches and realizes how bad he looks. I wonder if he will come back for another season if there is one

Ah but young Navin did make it rich albeit briefly using the resourcefulness instilled in him growing up in the poor but loving black family. The society that says everybody is a victim subsequently sued him into ruin. He is saved when his adopted family who used the money he sent home to better their situation tracked him down in the streets and brought him home. See it does work both ways when unconditional love abounds.
