I served in the Marine Corps for a number of years, and while I have great respect for the combat record of General Butler, I cannot help wonder: if he was so adamantly opposed to the "mercenaries" that would "destroy a civilization" in order to allow corporations to "capitalize on a rare commodity", why did he continue to serve for decades?

That sir is called hypocricy.

I did not earn as many decorations as General Butler, but I believed in what I did. I still do.

When I served in the Marine Corps, several members of my batallion were used as extras in the movie A Rumor Of War. They had to take leave (vacation) in order to do so.

As far as the use of DoD equipment used in the production, considering the value for public relations and recruiting, it is money well spent. The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds have done the same for decades, and I'm OK with that.

Agreed, and to further your comment, I could bring the SEALs up to speed with the lines a hell of a lot faster than I could bring a handfull of Hollywood hero wannabe misfits through BUDS - I doubt any in La La land would last the first day, and I'm being generous.

I guess I would never make it as a "professional" critic. I did not get the "anti-semite" angle our learned left-leaning friends pounced upon. "Crisco" was simply a businessman with an inoperable moral compass.

Lest we forget that by birth, Adolph Hitler was also Jewish.

"...a man eating in the restaurant made a "baby killers" comment. I thought that was some old-school Vietnam-era trash, but I guess these types never change. "

No, they don't change. Our involvement in Viet-Nam ended almost 40 years ago. In the four decades spanning then and today, one would think that the dope-smoking-latte-sipping-Birkinstock-wearing-"no-blood-for-oil"-chanting, "progressive" idiots could come up with something more original than "baby killers". I mean, after all - "baby killers" is so, like, ninteen seventies..,
