(Spoilers)Yea the only thing I don't like about introducing the Tullys in season 2 is the whole proclaiming Robb King of the North in Riverrun. I'm sure it will be handled a little differently, but I'm not that broken up about it.

They could easily do it in the states (California, Montana, or any of the central plains states) however I'm not sure how their "deals" are set up. I'm also not sure how many rolling plains there are on the island of Malta.

As long as they don't take a cue from True Blood. While I like the show and love the theme song I think the score is so predictable. There's the "scary" theme, the "Bill and Sooke" theme. I just wouldn't want GOT to fall into that trap.

So it looks like those other two directors have done a ton of HBO shows before including Bored to Death (which I enjoy a lot), In Treatment, Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, Rome, Deadwood, Sex and the City, Big Love, Six Feet Under as well as non HBO shows like Lost, Mad Men, Law and Order. So I guess these are some go to guys for directing.
