I think The Shining is totally bang on. That TV version looks really abysmal.

I agree!

Good write up. I agree 100% posters today are 95% shite! There are a few exceptions but on the whole they are usually horrible guff. Olly Moss's (as linked above) - simplistic styles are really great. We all realise there are people out there who can't make a decision without a big hollywood head grinning back at them and films like Big Fish bomb because there's no stars on the poster.
But the creative edge has disappeared in te last 10+ years.

Personally I grew up with Drew Struzan posters and to me that old drawing style is still unbeaten. Even the cheesey stuff like Police Academy and Vacation are up there as great artwork posters for me.

I did a feature about posters on my site (apologies for the shameless plug, but it's relevent and LWL are plugged there too)

Good write up. I do think they shouldn't go there now. It's been too long. Indy IV and the Star Wars cartoon sequels come to mind. Though hopefully they can do something different here.

The original is spot on and of it's time. The sequel pretty awful in comparison. Sometimes it's better to think about a possible sequel (like the Goonies 2) than to have it actually happen.

I guess it's just me, but I have no desire to watch this at all. And I'm not a fan of CGI unless it's used in a way like say MOON used it, or maybe better still WTWTA. I just think it never looks very real and in this instance overly cartoonish.

What's the beef with Kill Bill then? I thought collectively it was bang on, thoroughly enjoyable and definitely QT on form.

Death Proof in my humble was a bit 'meh! But over here we never got to see that and Planet Terror the way it was originally intended together with the trailers in between in proper grindhouse style, that would've added to it/them .

I'm in total agreement with the review though, the opening 20 minutes appear very special and like you're in for a thrill ride. It does go downhill, the worst part for me is Eli Roth, he's dreadful and not really an actor. That role should've been for someone decent, he's actually rather annoying.

I still purchased the dvd. Albeit the R1 2 disc S/E one as the UK release looks pretty pissy in comparison.

You've upped your ratings from the magazine. A 2 overall was harsh I felt. I enjoyed it. I did fear it might be like Eden Lake and using a little 'Daily Mail' scare tactics. You could argue it might be slightly. But it's pretty much spot on, these 'orrible asbo kids with guns is going on. I like the swipe at the terrible out of touch policing too. Sadly in the real world we haven't got ex-marine OAPS to clean up the streets.

Michael Caine is on top form.

Some great covers there, mine didn't make it but to be fair it's clearly largely a very high standard!

It says send them in and see them have a chance of being featured in the new issue. That's the issue out today, so I'd wager we'll know when the magazine lands on our doorsteps (or you go out and by one)
