if you want to get flashy you can get a red dot laser sight mounted on just about anything these days. Put that red dot on the thugs chest and fire.
There is a lot of good advice on here. But the best advice is, whatever you get, PRACTICE. Know your weapon inside and out. When you're scared and the adrenaline is pumping this will be very important.

In Iowa you have to have a permit to buy a hand gun. Dont need a permit to purchase a shot gun or rifle. A 12 gauge pump shot gun with a shorter barrel is excellent for home defense. Now if you want to get your CCP, then ofcourse a more compact hand gun will fit the bill. And for that you'll need two permits. One to purchase and then the CCP if you choose to actually carry.
He would've made a very good target. Everyone should own a firearm and learn to use it. Cops will most likely get your family justice for you, but they cant keep you safe. And you shouldnt expect them to.

one more thing, had everybody in that bldg been carrying a firearm, the terrorist would've been dead after he got off only a couple rounds. Not after he'd fired 60+ rounds. there were a lot more good guys in that room than bad. Its just the good guys were forced by law to be unarmed.
Guns are not going any where in this country so those that are against guns should pick a different fight. Maybe we could get the pro life crowd to concede that debate to the pro choice crowd. And maybe we could get the anti-gun crowd to give up their futile fight. and then maybe we could all just move on to something else and close the door on these two debates.
