You might not want me "labeling" your kids and I would not want you labeling my startup - too emotional. What might be intended as a compliment could be misinterpreted.

I am not sure you are giving yourself credit for the beauty of your current response:

"I will not generate the risk-adjusted returns I need"

You just turned this away from labeling them to highlighting YOUR challenge or limitation. That's awesome. They are great, but you can't invest because of your limitations.

If you really want a new term, I would focus on describing the characteristic of their business that limits your ability to invest, e.g. not "venture-scaleable".
