Steve Lundeberg : Lundy: Signs

Too many signs everywhere! Hurts my head, it's like I have to read every single taped up piece of paper in a joint before I talk to someone who says "did you read the sign?". I know, I sound just like the song.

I know my son would love a pitching machine too! When we get out of the city I want to set one up in the backyard. He'd probably set up a tent next to it and I'd never see him again.

I always forget how terrible it is to throw up until it happens. At those moments I think I would legitimately make a deal with the devil if it stopped the vomiting. Feel better soon and here's to another 10 years of no troubles!

I bet it sucks for the band too. Do you think ZZ Top wants to play loud, boisterous music for a bunch of people sitting on their butts like they are at the opera?

Would you simply banish soccer here in the U.S.? You see, I believe that would go virtually unnoticed by the masses here in America, but there would be an epic hit out on you by every other country on the planet.

I am heading to the nearest hardware store post haste. My kid goes through one insulted lunch bag per month, it's ridiculous. I'd love to see how long a sturdy paper bag lasts in his clutches.

Jennifer Moody : Moody: Cereal blogger

I went to a nutritionist, (for my 11 year old who has always been slow to gain weight), who told me not to be a grinch about sugary cereals, at least they have lots of vitamins! I was a little surprised at that, but okay. I never got it as a kid either, my parents were the kind that made me eat whole grain everything, including that uber-nutty bread that to this day I loathe. Honestly, sugared cereals just don't taste that good, but I always have a box or two around for a late night snack. Favorites include cocoa krispies and lucky charms. Cap'n crunch's flavor is amazing too, but texturally it's like eating razor blades.

I have a real problem with gum. It's disgusting in every way. Watching people chew it with wide open mouths, the loud popping some folks insist on inflicting on the rest of us, the people who spit it wherever they happen to be standing so I can step/drive in it. Singapore is my utopia. At the very least you shouldn't be allowed to chew gum when your on the clock. I don't need my dental hygenist, hairdresser, cashier, etc. smacking away in my face when I can't do a thing about it. And those poor baseball players can eat sunflower seeds.

Evidently the Klingon's have taken over San Diego this weekend as well. These are the new trolley signs downtown right now. I knew ComicCon brought in a lot of money but I kind of can't believe they did this. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Comic-Con-San-Dieg...

Calvin and Hobbes? I adored that strip and now love reading compilations from the perspective of a parent. These days I like Pooch Cafe and the Duplex, not sure if you run them in Albany. The Far Side was sublime.

I had never watched the softball game before, it was definitely more entertaining then the H.R. derby, which I find tedious. Finch is amazing. I wanted to see her buzz more of the "celebrities" with her fastball!

Younger, thinner men get away with it more, I think. It depends on the outfit but with a suit its definitely a bad look overall. BTW, the best thing I saw of all the all-star game events was when Mike Piazza did the splits on first during the celebrity softball game. I cringed and then giggled for a good ten minutes. I thought he'd split himself in two for sure. He looked stiff running to first later in the game but he was still running. I was impressed. :)

Steve Lundeberg : Lundy: School uniforms

I like the idea of a uniform. I think it does cut down on distraction but also I like the unity it represents. In some way it legitimizes the "school as a job" mindframe we try to instill in the kids. Instead of some kids going to school in big baggy pants (boys) or too small shirts (girls), kids are all on the same level playing field. Those parents who complain about stifling creativity are need to get a life.

Steve Lundeberg : Lundy: Unafraid of germs

Can't go wrong with your grandmother's advice for the most part. Just yesterday I was offered a piece of candy from a two year old while watching a little league game. Even though I knew there was a really good chance it came from beneath the bleachers I ate it to make him happy. Whenever I see one of those commercials trying to sell products out of germ fear I look over at my 10 year old boy. He's visited a dozen countries, spends more than half the time rolling around on the ground, never EVER truly washes his hands, and is rarely sick.

I have a swiss army knife that I always keep in my purse. I have to remember to take it out when I'm flying, but when I flew from San Diego to Portland last Christmas I realized my knife was still with me when I got to to Oregon. But never fear, they confiscated my IKEA lingonberry jam. :)

I run quite a bit, usually by myself, but occasionally I'll end up at the track on the military base where entire commands are doing their training. There is no motivation like trying to lap some of those Navy guys! You know you are kicking it when you feel like throwing up at the end. Good Luck!

Steve Lundeberg : Lundy: Autographs? Why?

As I've said before I think it is a little weird too, it's not like you know that person at all or have any kind of meaningful connection to them. I feel the same way about those baseball cards that have pieces of "real game worn jersey" in them. Yay, I have a piece of gross sweaty jersey in my baseball card! Thanks Topps! But I think it's mostly about money. The ball that Lincecum signed for my husband is worth a few hundred dollars right now, not that he'd think about getting rid of it anyway. You never know which athlete or celebrity is going to be hot in the future, or who will die and make the profit margin go up. It actually bothers me to watch grown men and women beg for autographs at the ballpark. Almost as much as it bothers me to see people knocking each other down for foul balls. (Although I have to admit sometimes it's extremely funny to watch people who look like they haven't had any exercise in the last ten years try to go after a ball). I didn't grow up a big baseball fan so maybe I just don't get it. It's kind of cute when the kids ask for an autograph, but so many times I've seen them get an autograph and run the ball back to mom or dad who take it away from them and put it away.
