Yep, just did the math. For someone who is not yet married and has no deductions, other than personal exemption, I would be in the highest tax bracket. So approx. $225,000 plus 39.6% of everything over $400,000. Thank you Mr. Government! Even though my income is barely above the poverty level, at least I'm supporting myself by working multiple jobs and am not collecting welfare checks each month.

Heard tonight on the local ATX news, that this lady is going to sell the home because she can't afford the taxes. She is keeping the $100,000 and Mercedes, however. Too bad the winner was not someone who is a 2012 college graduate who is already living in ATX and working 2 PT jobs while continuing to seek FT employment. Would have loved to live in this home and continue to reside in Austin. In my opinion... people shouldn't register for these contests if they have no intention of living in these beautiful HGTV homes and/or relocating. The reason HGTV awards an additional $100,000, is to help pay the prize tax/property taxes.
