well i can see what your saying it be different about the war thing but either way its still immigration . no matter how you look at it, its people trying to go to a different part from where their coming from. So, just because we fought killed native Americans and Mexicans cant do that doesn't mean its any different if anything it just makes us look that much worse and we just got lucky with the scenario at certain times. now i don't think any illegal immigration is right, because a law is a law and if you break it, then that wrong and thats just the way the government works, but to say its different now is absurd

13 years ago @ Race Relations Project - How am I not a racist? · 0 replies · +1 points

i think that these are two different thoughts entirely. Just because you believe you have a better chance then someone else doesn't mean that's racist. i think if anything its cultural racism, because if you saw a poor white person on the street your obviously going to think you might have a better chance to succeed. i think racism is the feeling for hating someone because of their origins and how they live, not because you think you might be better off. but maybe im wrong and i am white and maybe i just cant see it, i think sam would just be proud im trying to think about it.

13 years ago @ Race Relations Project - South Park...off the h... · 0 replies · +1 points

South Park has been a show that has been around as long as i could at least understand humor. At first i just liked it because it was a foul dirty mouth show that my mom and dad didn't want me to watch and so of course that's the only reason i watched it. but as i got older i really recognized some of the message they were started to get across and by college time i was in amazement how they could take a situation that was going on in the world, and really nail it and show you how stupid it is and what the lesson you should learn from the stupidity of some people. Well when i heard about this episode of Muhammad i didn't think much of it until they said they could get bombed for showing Muhammad on their show. I think i remember laughing out loud when i heard that. i just can't imagine a group being so mad to kil someone because they are going to show their version of their prophet, not even their god, and its going to be in cartoon form!!!! what these ignorant douche bag rebels don't realize is they already showed MUHAMMAD IN ONE OF THEIR FIRST EPISODES WITH THE JESUS IN A SUPERHEROS EPISODE! So it boggles my mind to judge a television show that is completely unbiased and has even showed him before but now you want to kill him if they show your prophet. im sorry i get what Sam says about most Muslims but you don't see anyone else going to this extreme for showing something on television. and they live IN NEW YORK CITY! they say shit like this, they live where September 11th happened and can still get away with this? you know why? because we live in America where even their free rights matter. So, i guess i just will never understand how you can be so thick headed and to watch their show and now threaten them. The south park creators wanted to show it but comedy central censored it, which is crazy to think they felt that strong about it. But Seth McFarlane, creator of Family Guy talked about this issue with Larry king said "how far do you take it, if its the funniest joke in the world, is it worth dying for, sometimes its just not worth it" but south park creators also talked about it, and said if they dont show it, hen they would be contradicting themselves from what they have done all their lives. So im really torn what i would do, i guess every person would be different, but i know one thing i really hope that these radicals are found and get what they deserve for threatening to kill someone if they show a cartoon of someone. As Jon Stewart said on his show the other day, Hey revloution muslims, Go fuck yourselves!

i feel that no matter what, that every guy in the world conforms some way to fit into society. i am from the so called boondocks, and i usually wear camo and boots and so on when i am in my home town. but when i go out to the city near us or to state college i feel though as i have to "dress up" so that i kind of fit in. i mean i know thats bad but until people can get comfortable with how people wear their clothes weather it be a Muslim or a country kid then i dont se people not trying to fit in.

well we all agree that this is something that is disgusting and wrong. but it brings up a good point that we wouldn't play this, but we play shooter games. yes there different, and you would say that you would never kill anyone. but if i said i would never rape anyone its the same, so how are they different? i think its sick but i don't think it should be censored if killing games aren't, its a double standard. i just don't get where in our society that we think its ok for kids to play killing games but not raping games? im not for or against either way its just a weird thing to think about.

i just love the way he presented himself while asking this question. you cane easily see that he is a hard guy, that thinks he is what he is and he will never change for anybody no matter what. if you don't honestly your opinion has not changed on at least one of these topics, then you are kidding yourself. When Sam has said some of these topics of race and inequality and the Indians, i guarantee that you didn't know all that before this class, you might have your own little smug thoughts, but you didn't know the facts. So you find out the facts and your opinion no matter what you think, will change slightly now knowing what the true fact is. your knowledge changes, so your opinion changes. i agree to a sense about maybe not changing the way i run my life, im from a small town little diversity, and i like who i am and who i have become, so my life is going to get flipped around by this class, but somethings that i thought i knew were off and i changed the facts in my head, so in essence it has made a different. i understand the question isn't have you learned anything, but in reality its sort of the same question. its just to broad of a question, has my opinion changed on native Americans, yes, blacks, no. i mean to say you haven't changed your opinion on anything, even in the slightest, of what he has talked about is being a true ass hole, in my opinion of course. Yes i agree with some of the people at the top that he sometimes goes off topic, and says stuff in his opinion, but what teacher doesn't? most people probably heard about this class, heard it was easy and heard it was interesting so they took it. but when he gets into the controversial stuff, instead of opening your ears, you automatically judge, and then just call him crazy cause its not your opinion. i mean are you really that scared to change that whenever he starts talking you just need to think this isn't me, and not pay attention? also, i just think its hilarious that people are still talking about bleeding in this and about how he should not have brought it up, if you get that offended by it, that's crazy, its college, not 3rd grade, don't be IMMATURE PEOPLE. And people who say that he makes fun of God then gave us 200 words on why god is good? i am a christian and what you did there was pretty hypocritical, you bash the guy for talking about god in one way, then you talk about him in another. it all comes back to people cant take change apparently and they think they know all the right answer by 19. i just wish the people who said no opinion has changed, re-look at the class and notes and really think that theres nothing that changed in your mind?

i think if we got rid of welfare that our economy would be worse then it is right now. we need people to spend money for us to survive, so if we got rid of peoples money then we would hurt everyone else too. i don't believe people should get welfare and should have to work, but we started something like this we cant just stop it because like i said it would hurt our economy even more and ruin more then just the people who are on welfare's lives. Our social status would be ruined just as bad. so there is no good coming if we get rid of it.

i am probably the exact opposite and born into an all white hometown and area. this at first wasn't a big deal because we lived next to a big city where there is a lot of colored people, but i never got that exposure that i should of and probably didn't hit the re vision stage till college. Also, taking this class made me realize how i thought all through high school about some colored people were wrong and very off. i am just glad that not just this class, but this school made me realize the truth and glad that i learned it now, before i got into the real world and made some really stupid mistakes

14 years ago @ Race Relations Project - The White Minorities · 0 replies · +1 points

this is a subject that i have heard my friends talking about for a long time, and when it gets brought up that white people will become the minority in the united states, i never could wrap my brain around that could be true. i mean i don't want to sound racist, but when you think of the word minority, most stupid people like me, think of a person of color, and to think now that the word minority will be going to white people. Its not a big deal in the scope of important things, its just something that will be changing the course of American history, so i think that's why people are talking about it and bringing it up. i think its pretty insane when i hear white people from my home town worrying about this transition. They say stuff like colored people are taking over and we are going to be extinct and soon enough we will be mistreated, and some even say that we will be not allowed to do anything but labor work. i cant believe people are actually thinking these kind of things. dont get me wrong, i definitely think that white people, once we are the minority, we are going to probably pay for what we did, but not to the extremes that some people are thinking. As a white person it is a little weird to think about this subject, and the only thinking i worry about is when my great grand kids are trying to get jobs, that they are not racially discriminated against. I know that this is obviously going on right now still very badly, but that doesn't mean it should continue when the roles are flipped. i am also not saying that this for sure is going to happen, i am just saying that how awful our race has treated everyone else, that there will be some backlash in the future that white people are going to have to deal with, which isn't fair. But altogether, hopefully people of color will be able to be treated equal and getting to important positions of power in business and politics, where they should be today, instead of the future. i realize this cant happen right away because there is still a whole bunch of white people living in the United states but it will happen but i don't think it will be as dramatically dropping after it hits about 50/50 just because of families white families who are still out there and such. i just hope when this transitions happens that it doesn't get out of control and people realize this is just how things work, and that there is not so much racism on either side and hope that it doesn't get to where we are thinking backwards and not forwards.

14 years ago @ Race Relations Project - Those Dolls Say Alot A... · 0 replies · +1 points

When Sam said that this video is one of the most disturbing videos that we would watch this year, i was a little skeptical especially how it started. but when it came to the survey they did about the the black kids and the dolls, disturbing might not be the right word, but it was definitely something i wasn't expecting. If you would have told me that a study was done with 21 black kids with a white and back doll and asked me how many kids would pick the black doll, i probably would have said that 15 would have picked the black dolls and not the other way around. i think for most of the kids in society and in this study, in my opinion, i just think it has to do with the majority white aspect to life. i think there is just a lot more white dolls made then there was black dolls, because marketing companies who make the dolls made more white dolls because there is more of a demand for the white doll because of the white majority. So some kids growing up in a small town could only buy white dolls because that's all they had in their area. But that still doesn't describe why some of the kids called the white doll the good doll and said that the white doll was more like them. but as you see in the video you see that the kids struggle to say that the white doll was like them, so they know they are more like the black doll but say there more like the white doll, i think, because of the way the media portrays the way the dolls are sold. What i mean is that they had their commercials and Disney had princess white because of the majority thing too. s , i think when kids see the white one they want to be like the doll they see, they don't see skin color but they see what the marketers are selling. i just think we should see this as a horrible thing by the marketers of he product, and not so much the child is wrong. if this was the case the other way around that it would have the same effects. So, i think that the company just need to make the same amount of each doll and sell each one in the stores, and i think you would see a bit of difference in the study done. So i guess what i am saying is that this is something that needs to stop, but i dont think its that disturbing knowing that all that happened is that its just another awful thing the the ad companies have done to brain wash kids.
