Cant you read numbers? 14th Amendment. Thats what you are ignoring. Yes they are amendments to the constitution, they are not part of the constitution but are amendments because yes the constitution was flawed it needed amending.

Just because some sons and grnadsons pf former slaves can not recognize that anti miscegenation emanated from the fact that marriage is a civil right, doesnt mean that they are right. Just like you cant read the number 14, doesnt mean you are right.

Well, my christian church conducts marriages for gays. Why is it that our church should be treated less than yours? We have a longer history than most of your mega-poly-churches too. We trace our roots to the religious from the Mayflower. Our church is more American than yours, if you think about it. And yet you wont let all our marriages get the recognition that all your marriages get? Who made your church king of the USA? As far as I am concerned more of the founders of the USA are from our branch of Christianity than yours!!!

Well... Freedom of Speech and Religion is NOT in the constitution either (Theyre in the Amendments). I'm guessing you dont believe in those either? You dont like the fourteenth amendment??? - well I guess you think interracial marriage is too progressive? You stick to the constitution only, so no Amendments? Okay, i guess you long for slavery as well? How about women's right to vote? Oh none of them are in the constitution so you dont believe in ALL our civil rights.

Hey as long as civil unions are "everything but marriage", I agree. The problem is when civil unions are nothing but a piece of paper that wont even grant hospital visitation rights. Now, we are more humane than that!

How about the SUPREME COURT? Would you believe it?

It is nearly a century after the 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868... the Supreme Court unanimously affirmed that "marriage is one of the 'basic civil rights of man.' In 1967 the case, Loving v. Virginia, ended bans on interracial marriage in the 16 states that still had such laws because of it.

Well, youre not so bad... unfortunately this is a red herring. If Anti Gay Marriage folks were so pro-civil union, why is it that the same groups (focus on the family, catholic church, right wing republicans, mormon church) were against Everything But Marriage in Seattle?

The truth is, only a few anti-gay marriage proponents would even give equal rights to gay couples, even if it is under a different name.

Straight couples have marriage and civil unions. If gays can have marriage and civil unions too, then that would make Elton happy since all he wants is civil unions. Oh wait, the civil union in Britain IS marriage in all but name (legally). If Elton knew that some civil unions here dont even give visitation rights (unlike his civil union) he might change his mind.
