I'm so tired of this counterargument. Just because of your personal experience and opinions as a cyclist, you feel that you have a right to defend the atrocious disregard of the law that many local cyclists display. This is what perpetuates the attitude that many have against cyclists. Your argument is arrogant, unsubstantiated, and makes you look like a tool. If you want respect from motorists and other cyclists, obey the law and encourage others to do so.

As a driver, I come to a complete stop, follow the speed limits, use my turn signal (except on 36, that’s another story), and pay attention to what is happening around me. As a cyclist, I do the same things; the rules do not change for me when I change vehicles. If more of us would set the example and follow the rules, this tension could be greatly reduced.

I'll 2nd that. I grew up in rural Minnesota and every street was plowed by sunrise without exceptions. Boulder does a great job plowing those bike paths (yawn), but not the streets,
