adnonsense : Signed up to Twitter

hmm signed up because work wanted me to. its a good mechanism for spreading news stories etc. if you are not familiar with it, twitter is basically a micro-blogging service. think blogging but limited to SMS length.

adnonsense : Interested in Geo/Mobile/Social applications?

No haven't been to one of these events before, but it looks interesting and there is free beer! I think it will be quite tech (i.e. programming) focused. The event is basically a meeting to discuss development in mobile applications and geolocation (e.g. google maps mobile).

Untitled : Marketing during a recession

If google could get more retailers using google checkout they could close part of the loop completely, right from intial search to purchase. By adopting a comission model rather that CPC, they could enable a direct relationship between marketing and the final sale. Pricing the keywords coud become a problem though!

Thanks, yes they have a mobile application that is pretty useful. Quite similar to the puls8 concept but w/o the friends part. Yelp will certainly be a challenge, they launched their UK site last week and it will be interesting to see what kind of traffic they get. I'll certainly keep you posted!

emc : My internet insight of the week - It's not all traffic that counts

One thing to look at would be user sign ups rather than hits. A lot of people use digg without ever registering (lurkers), where as virtually everyone who uses linkedin will have also created a profile. But in this case I'd agree that it is a lot down to the type of sites, there aren't really that many monetisation options for digg other than advertising. according to this page digg has 3m users (pretty out of date though) http://www.jgc.org/blog/2008/01/how-many-users-do... whereas according to wikipedia linkedin has 30m

cwandell : Holographic TV

i think you may be on to something, but you just have to look at a show like South Park to realise that quality production (3D / HD / whatever) is not necessary for something to be popular. same deal with the Wii, crappy (by comparison) graphics, but much better gameplay and hence has blown the ps3 away. btw i thought it was very interesting that cinema seems to be bucking the recession trend: http://business.scotsman.com/medialeisure/Cinema-...

Toby's Tumblr : Internet Pawn

apart from pawn shops the only other business that seem to be booming at the monent are leasing / rental shops - so you might be on to something! these rental shops (Radio Rentals etc) disappeared for a few years during the boom, but I get the feeling they will be back with a vengeance. http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/jan/04/renti...
