If what you're saying is true, don't you think it would it would have been reported that they were drunk? And drunk at 6pm on a Monday? That's another issue of it's own.
No they didn't have that option, you are correct. These boys weren't "freaked out" that they hurt an animal, they were having a swell time doing it. The turn of events in no way reflects that they did this to put it out of it's misery. Call animal control if you really don't want a raccoon going through your trash.
School should be the least of these boys concerns right now.
That's the thing, they were torturing it. They didn't shoot it, it wasn't a quick blow to the head then it's dead, but they instead repeatedly beat it with a bat and stabbed it with a machete.
Hunting is considered a sport (whether you believe it's wrong or not), which if someone has an interest in that, than they can make use of their rights, go out and purchase a registered gun, get a hunters license, and drive to a designated area. That's the legal way to kill animals if that's something that they're interested in. Killing a raccoon with your buddies by beating it to death with a bat and stabbing it with a machete where people can witness is just plain idiotic.
It's one thing to kill an animal with the intent of putting it out of it's misery, but it's another to enjoy doing it. Did it really take three guys, a machete, and a baseball bat to kill one raccoon? Likely story.
