No, I did not read the book, but I can honestly say that I was extremely disappointed in the movie.

The previews had me excited to watch on the upcoming date, however it was absolutely nothing that I anticipated it to be. It wasn't scary at all, nor did it make you "jump off your seat". It made me want to jump off of my seat alright........ off my seat away from the crappy movie! It was not a horror movie, it was a movie about a small town secret regarding a woman who was raped and murdered along with her young daughter. It was completely misleading and a total waste of 4 hours!

Most of the movie was composed of Pierce sitting around the lake house having bad dreams at night, crying about his deceased wife, drinking, sitting in front of his laptop with writers block (this alone must have taken up 3 hours of the movie) and walking around his "haunted" house comprising of flying objects and smashing glass.

Sorry to say, but the minute a record player started playing on its own, piercing screams heard throughout the house with glasses/windows breaking, I would have been out of there!
Who the hell in their right mind would stay? Which brings me to the point of saying that you cannot relate to anything in the movie other than the part where Sara Tidman was raped & daughter was drowned/murdered.
It's the only part that seemed like another human being could relate to.
I couldn't even relate to the part where his wife was hit by that bus, because the bus hitting her looked so fake! I mean seriously, how many public transportation buses are doing like 80 mph on a small city street. She would have stuck to the bumper from the force of the hit. The bus never stopped, why was she laying in the exact spot she was hit? King's a freekin' moron. My 2 yr. old grandson could have done a better job with the movie!

They could have gotten the story across in an hour. The other 3 hrs was just babblling bullcrap. I could have watched the first 10 mins of it, left, gone to the gym, gone food shopping, had a few drinks/appetizers at a local pub, come back 15 minutes before the ending and I wouldn't have missed anything relavent to the point of story!
It was a HUGE disappointment............
