St. Paul himself encouraged that, when possible, the single person should strive to remain single, for the sake of the serving the Lord without reservation. Celibacy might mean that one needs to master certain natural urges, but it does not cause deviant desires. The overwhelming majority of child sex abuse cases in the world are caused by "non-celibate" people, i.e., family, relatives, teachers, etc. Within the Church, the overwhelming majority of these sex abuse cases, (engaged in by an overwhelming minority of priests), are homosexual, post-pubescent sexual encounters- this is a fact. Getting married won't solve that problem. What's needed is better scrutiny of the candidates who feel called to enter a very sacred profession, one that's filled with a majority of selfless, God-serving men: the Priesthood.
