I remeber this happening Tuesday night. I was out at the Auditor's office and noticed that the Palo results were the last to be reported. I got two different answers from both Auditor Joel Miller and Jeff Beauregard. Miller was telling me that they had to count the ballots by hand at the polling station at the Palo Fire Station and the results would be transmitted once this process was finished. Beauregard told me that they were having problems with the voting equipment transmitting the results to the Auditor's office and that there was a question about some of the ballots. He also said that the poll offiicials were going to hand carry the ballots back to Cedar Rapids. Miller denied everything that Jeff Beauregard told me. It sounds like the Audior's office was trying to pull a CYA, but it sounds like they are in the process of working everything out.

Thank you very much. I have a lot better understanding of how the government works out there. Jeff always made it sound like you guys had a strong mayor-council, where actually it is a weak mayor-council as do most small communities. Do not feel too bad, even though I admire him for taking the bull by horns in Palo after the flood, even myself as a close 25 year friend of Jeff's has been rebuked and ignored when I have tried to give him advice, assistance and support with his community. Maybe it is just the stress and the overwhelmingness of the situation, but I was deeply upset by his actions.

The number of people that are running in this race is less a referendum to the current mayor and council, but more the fact that the community of Palo has a unofficial history of independent and free spirited people whom moved out there to get away from the constrants of living in Cedar Rapids. Everybody has there idea about progress in the community.
One question I do have though, is why is Jeff Beauregard stepping back as mayor? He has done a good job in that position, won numerous awards for his leadership, and has done may things for the community behind the scenes. Even though he may be elected to the council, it is kind of sad to see this news.

The interest in this town's election has to do more with Palo's history of being a town of free spirits, than the job that the current mayor and council have done since the flood. There have been some instances though of good and brilliant people, with the intention of assisting the community that have been literally and metaphorically run out of town. The town will continue to have problems, until the council and citizens recognize this and welcome the assistance into their community with open arms.

I was deeply surprised that one of the meetings wasn't scheduled in Central City or Center Point.

In this upcoming mayoral election, I unfortunately find myself voting for the lesser of three evils. All three are good men personally, I have heard them speak and have held a few conversations with all of them. I will probably vote for Fagan, but I have found his record over the last 16 months to be troubling. He has at least engaged me in getting involved in my city and has listened to the input that I have provided. Even though Corbett is a good person personally, I do not agree with his record in the state house and the fact that he is in bed with the local business community. I also have not found him to be engaging when it comes to encouraging people to be involved in our city, nor does he seem interested in my input. It sometimes seems like he has an agenda, even before he has sat at the mayor's desk.

I would like to see Cedar Rapids start a partnership such as mentioned in this article with all three state Universities, the local private colleges and Kirkwood. I bet that these young people would be eager to work in the community, and the city would get their ideas, knowledge and assistance for little or nothing. Also if younger people feel involved in the community, they are more likely to stay and it gives the city a means to pick out our future leaders.

A comment to Jennifer, that responded that Aaron Saylor is not a realtor. I don't know where you got your information, but I went to the State of Iowa website and was able to pull his license up.

Also, l do not quite understand what the posters mean when you say that he is full of rhetoric, or is slimey. Is there a philosophy, policy or procedure that you do not agree with of his, or are you simply for another candidate? Was there an incident or interaction that turned you off? Please clarify and explain your position, instead of making blanket statements.
