I like hearing about your kids -- mine ate grown and out of the house, but not yet at the stage to provide grandchildren -- so I need some vicarious warm and fuzzy, Now I will brag -- all three of mine have their heads screwed on right. I am convinced that one of the reasons for this is that they never had a TV in their rooms. If they wanted to watch TV had to go to the family room and associate with the rest of the family. Sometimes had to negotiate compromises with siblings when there was a programming dispute. The first time they had a TV in their rooms was in a college dorm (and those TVs belonged to roommates). So stick to your guns.

I agree; shower TV would be impossible to keep clean. Also, I couldn't see it without my glassees.

Here is a general summary of how it works: In terms of income tax (which is different from property taxes). You owe tax once, when yo get the income (win the prize). Real property (the house) would be treated as income in the state where it is located no matter where you live. Smart home is income in Tennessee, Dream Home is income in California. It appears that Tennessee, unlike California, has no state income tax so while you had income, no state tax would be due. The car and the cash will be handed over to you where you live, so you would have income in that state. Whether or not that income is taxed would depend on whether your state has income tax and the details of that state's tax laws. Wherever you live the entire package is subject to federal income tax.

I somehow figured that out, but thanks for caring enough to post the correction. Another friend told me than Mr. Clean eraser pads work great, so I might try that first.

I'm on the left coast and there is no way we could pick up and move east. For us it would be the money (assuming there is a monetary option) . Good luck. I always think it would be nice to see a local win

Thanks. It is our vacation home so I will have to try your solutions next time we're up there; that might be a few weeks away because we have several commitment for the next few weekends. I have tried the shower cleaners and a squeegee, but you've confirmed my thought that I have to really scrib with something.

I saw one press release that estimated the value of the whole package (house, car and cash) at "over one million dollars". Assuming the one milllion figure is correct, federal income taxes would be in the neighborhood of north of $350,000. That's a very rough estimate, the are a lot of unknown variables.

Will your vinegar/tea tree oil/water solution remove spots? We bought a house where the prior owners did a lousy job of removing spots from glass shower doors and I'm trying to get the build-up of spots off. My advice for everyong out there -- if you are going to install glass shower doors go with frosted, the spots don't show as much.

I agree kitchen storage is much better in this house. I love the drawers in the island. When we redid our kitchen we had a spice drawer put in -- best thing ever, I highly recommend it to anyone doing a kitchen reno. They do need an insert to hold spice jars in rows.
