My understanding is there was South Korean troop involvement and, possibly, Australian. The difference between the two conflicts is the important thing. In Vietnam we were fighting a nationalist leader who had fought the Japs, then the French, in the effort to free his country from colonialist powers. Had we supported that instead of corrupt factions in the South, like Diem, we would have avoided the enormous loss of treasure and American blood, winding up with a trading partner, as we have now, instead of a war. In Afghanistan we are fighting a mind-set that cannot be allowed again to flourish. The Taliban are no better than Hitler Germany with respect to the oppression of their people, especially women. We had to beat Hitler. And we have to defeat the Taliban. That task is made the more difficult, if not impossible, though, given our tacit and blind support of Israeli expansionism.
