Word on Pixar. Jessie's kind of my favorite ever. And I love that they can do stories that have actual stories. Still haven't had a female lead from them, though. (Which is not meant as a criticism, given that they've done great work.) Can't wait until we do!

I am very excited about this. Wondering what the tone of the miniseries will be. There is a lot of early glamour, and a lot of early duplicity and violence in HW history. Hope we get to see some "baddie" studio heads! (how I love/hate them!)

I'm hopeful that the film is good; I know there has been a lot of criticism over early cuts because they were judged to be racist. I don't know; haven't seen anything yet.

I agree with all of this princess talk; there obviously is a time and a place, but I'm waiting for a Disney movie that features a strong woman protagonist who does not ultimately work towards the affection of a man.

Wow, I think I'm officially in a fight with you.

Gaiman is a unique, fresh voice, and I'm incredibly excited by this film. I actually bought the book Coraline, despite its young demographic, because of my massive admiration for his work.

Neverwhere is one of my favorite books, and his short stories are really phenomenal as well. I strongly recommend Smoke and Mirrors, a collection of shorts that really display his range within his genre.

I have absolutely no interest in this film, but it would be nice to see her in a role that's so different. In the hypothetical world, of course, where I would see the film despite my deep objections to the material.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as "Cool" as much as it might fit the bill for "Disgusting". I'm a firm believer that there is generally a reason why certain things are flavored the way they are. Popcorn continuing to taste like popcorn is fine by me. Wouldn't like alcohol that tastes like it, though, either.

As some have already pointed out, there is some good sci fi going on in film, but a decent amount of it is on TV. And I'm quite happy about that. Well, not the lack in the former, but the happenin' in the latter. (Did I get those terms right? They always confuse me)

So many projects are going this unhappy route to non-existence. It's interesting that Forbes picked this one to follow; shall have to pick up the issue!

To be honest, it's probably best they didn't tell the workers; I'd certainly get pretty peeved if I thought I might be working for nil.

-Biggest movie EVER in theatres in the UK
-Record for DVD sales, there too
-Biggest opening for a musical (granted, a category for which TDK was not eligible, but important given the diminished "natural" audience size for a musical film)

TDK still has a bigger worldwide gross, but when you compare the percentage of that gross that came from the opening weekend, to the opening weekend for MM, the results are astounding. Obviously, this does not make one or the other a better film. But in terms of the significance of this for MM, it means that the movie was able to track consistent numbers, and make a helluva lot of money over a long period of time. Relatively quietly.

That's all. Again, not comparing the style, content, or even commenting on the quality of either film.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, David. It was not my intention to criticize you personally (sincerity is sometimes hard to get across thru the sarcasm-rich "inter-tubes"); I commented on your post only because it's an issue that didn't really seem relevant to any of the other posts, and your thoughts about SATC got me thinking. Which is actually a testament to you, sir.

I'm actually not a big fan of the film itself, but I find it absolutely fascinating. You're absolutely right about the analysis of the NYT and Gillette's reply. But to think that a film designed to be a commercial success, with no chance or illusion of Oscar potential (and no abstinence promotion, thank god) created this kind of discussion - therein lies the fun!

I mean, I could talk my personal faves, (Lynch and Hawks) all day long, but I'd probably be chatting them up with other film geeks with similar opinions to my own. Sigh.
