It is "we the people" - all of us & that means govt organized health care - who should take care of all our children, seniors, workers, citizens ! We all contribute to the "wealth" of America, we all should have equal care opportunities.

Thank you Amber. yes : "it (healthcare) should be there to nurture our potential for overall wellness so that our bodies are more prepared when diseases arise. " ! Again, I've spent most of my adult life in France, have had two children here and have always been shocked to hear how expensive it is to have health care in the states ! I have been going to a general practionner (md.) for over 20 years now - i pay $20 per visit (about once a year and for one hour's consultation) and am reimbursed by the social security $17... she does homeopathic unisist prescriptions mostly and the "dose" (medecine) costs $1,50 (also, one per year !) this is also reimbursed... Many times, the problem disappears even while talking with her - otherwise, all symptoms of illness disappear a few minutes after taking the homeopathy... and if not i call to say it wasn't helpful and she works to find the right one - over the phone ! When my husband fell sick with pancreatic cancer and the drs at the hospital proposed no known cure or even real help other than trying new protocoles, they encouraged him to seak "alternative medecine" which we did - This "encouragement" to find solutions - get better, stay healthy is where we need absolutely to go in America ! once off the racket of lobbies and vicious circles of financial gain and onto other methods "to nurture our potential for overall wellness" life will be a little bit easier there. It's ridiculous and scandulous to not take care of the basics for the people in such a rich and advanced country like America - especially when we talk so freely of "our values" ! I sure hope Mr Obama will study foreign health care policies to find the one best to invent for America today.

This is very well written kllmt, thank you. I would like to add that there are interesting research projects, books, links about origins and preventions of illness - beyond exercise, eating well, seeing health care providers... if we can stop the lobbies, check the big business issues, getting to the root of the problems and becoming healthier and happier should be easier, hum?

I'm in France where we all have health care too, and I'm amazed and sad that in America we don't have the courage to find a system to protect our people, help them to be healthy, find ways to get healthy, invest in any and all ways to heal and nurture our people. This should become a priority.
