the video is an obvious ploy to reduce shoplifting by showing viewers that there are more productive things to do in supermarket aisles, such as dancing. If it's not that, it's definitely to educate viewers that all dance moves look better with bright white hi-tops.

Had to come back to this post again - there's too much to take in on first read: youth, art, drugs and death. I also wanted to listen to the song again - great piece. Upon reading again, I like your word choice of 'urgency' more and more to describe the zeitgeist that Dash (and others) play upon. The root word, urge, pretty accurately describes the vague-but-compelling sense of momentum that seems to drive individuals from youth to death (and hopefully to drugs and art somewhere between them). I can't decide though, whether I see Dash as a casualty of this urgency, or as someone who truly managed to reject its grip on him. If I'm to take anything from Dash's death, or his life, or his work, it's that as long as my urges are there to keep me company, I'd like to get to know them better. I plan to start with the urge to have some water and the urge to pee - which came first anyways?

First of all, how fitting are those black leather gloves in the picture? (pun intended) The literary cliche of black gloves really jumps out at you (think Dr. Strangelove http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3181944064/tt0057012, or either Skywalker - Anakin or Luke). No aspiring fascist would be caught without them. Secondly - batons?? seriously?? They don't read Freud at the police academy? I'm all for police carrying batons if it means they don't carry guns, but if they're going to run around swinging their prosthetic phalli, count me out. Lastly, way to go Aaron - wielding the non-literary, non-Freudian device (camera phone) and turning Big Brother on itself. There's nothing more aggravating to aspiring fascists than freelance surveillance.

Secondly, the phrase "punk free jazz fusion" is amusingly ambiguous. You can interpret it (as I think you intended) as a fusion of punk and free jazz. OR, you can interpret it as punk-free jazz fusion (jazz fusion that is free of punk, like fat free milk is free of fat). PS. I like the song, nice find. PPS. I actually do still go to record stores, and I like them a lot. Sometimes I even give them money for things I can't put on my ipod.
