Reminds me of a guy I had in a pug a few days ago... granted it was only Uldaman, but the idea is still the same. He was pulling at a pretty good clip, but I was doing fine with keeping up with him. However, one player had to go afk. The tank proceded to pull quite quickly ahead. I asked him to wait for a second for the afk player to get back. "I pull quickly - if you can't keep up, I'll quit." I assured him that I had no issue with his pace, but that we should wait for the player. He ran into a big room, aggroed everything and quit.

We did manage to kill everything on our own though, so his attempt to wipe us was in vain - rather sad though, that he was so full of himself that he quit a perfectly good group like that.

As nearly everyone else has said, you're in the right here. If he does not raid, then he shouldn't be entitled to the rank of raider and whatever benefits come from it. It seems logical to me. He was benefiting from a loophole and his conscience never said anything to him about it (clue 1!)

If he truly wanted to be in the guild to be a PART of the guild and the community, he wouldn't be pitching a fit. He's clearly there just for repairs and access to the bank and that's pretty shitty of him. Stand your ground and keep him as-is - if you do end up having to demote a few other people that haven't raided, it shouldn't be a big deal. Following your "new rule" as I understand it might be, if they decide to actively raid and contribute to the well-being of the guild - POOF raider rank. No big deal. If they have to hang out at whatever general rank you have until then, they shouldn't be bothered by it.

Be sure to give couches the "nap" test before you buy. It MUST be comfortable for napping, otherwise half it's use is gone!
