I really must say that the "I won get over it" attitude is really poor. Unfortunately enough people didn't do their homework and look into his voting record on the issues. If enough people had known what he was really about rather than what he "told" them during the campaign I suspect the outcome might have been different. Granted McCain is no gem either...
I am by no means rich. My family wold probably qualify as below the poverty level for our size to income ratio yet I don't feel I need someone to provide for me. That is my responsibility and mine alone. When the economy comes back, and it always does, I will start back on the road to prosperity. That is freedom. I was self employed until things went bad this last year. When things come back I have the option to do that again or stay with my current employer or a combination of both. And yes I agree about our education system, rather than bloating it with all kinds of feel good programs perhaps we should focus on the basics such as reading, science and the things that will actually benefit our society with smart young minds rather than educating them about balck history and the likes. I am not a racist but feel that that should be left to black families to teach their heritage just as my family taught me about our italian heritage.
It is interesting some peoples thoughts on equal outcome for all when the reality is that there is not equality in desire for achievement. Why should the person who has no greater aspiration than to work at 7-11 have equal outcome with the individual who works hard and gains success. I sincerely disagree with the class warfare that the government perpetuates. Rather than portraying the rich and successful as bad and evil they should be held up as a goal for which all should strive to become.
Interesting that you point to the dependance on foreign oil. In 1979 (I may be off a year or two) the federal government created the department of energy. It's main purpose to get us off of our dependance on foreign oil. Here we are in 2009, the Dept. of Energy has a 24 billion dollar a year budget and we are no closer to be being off of our dependance on foreign oil. Ironically we have enough oil within our own country to greatly reduce this dependance but our own government won't allow us access to it. As for the "fair" part about taxes, to me fair is when everybody pays the same percentage, period. by increasing the amount that someone pays in taxes based on their income level is actually unfair. I have had some downturns throughout my life and the interesting thing was that even though I had paid into these programs I couldn't access their benefits because of previous income. How is that fair?
How is Corning these days? I worked for Corning Glass back in '89. I really like that town, it was pretty cool and Watkins Glen Racetrack was just up the road too!
Centrleft,
I would like to ask you a question. First of all, Yes I am a conservative american and feel that our government is overstepping it's boundaries in an extreme way regarding taxation and stifling personal liberty. That being said I would like to ask you in all sincerity to please explain how you feel that policies of burying us in debt, expanding federal programs and making inflamatory statements about our great nation are good. I hope others will refrain from the flame wars as I am genuinely interested in knowing how an individual can honestly think these things are taking us in the right direction. I await your reply and would like an intellectual debate rather than insult slinging. Please do me a favor though. If you feel that you cannot discuss the ideas without bashing people then please don't reply.
While I have never dealt with the auto unions, I have dealt with the trades unions. never in my life have I seen such a bunch of overpaid, lazy spoiled people. I would go into detail but apparently you drank the union kool aid and it would be like talking to a wall.
Goo (interesting moniker) Relax. We are so frustrated that even the law abiding ones of us need to vent. Especially when our own elected officials seem to pick and chose what ILLEGAL things they will encourage and which ones they will take out with a vengeance. Unfortunately if you're born here and paid taxes into the system all of your working life they will come after you with a vengeance to help support their new found non tax paying friends. My only thought is too bad they outlawed the bigger magazines...reloading let's some of them get away!
You have no idea how much this one just shook me up. I grew up in Binghamton, went to college in Binghamton and to top it off my parents still live in Binghamton. I found out about it on Friday as it was taking place when I came home for lunch. Of course my first reaction was to call my parents to make sure they were ok. I kinda figured they would be as they actually live in a township outside the city limits but none the less... My thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by this tragedy. My wife who I met and married in Argentina went to centers like that when she first arrived in this country to learn english on her way to becoming a citizen (which she proudly is now by the way) The thought that someone would do something like this goes beyond imagination. It saddens me to see this kind of senseless violence. I often wonder aloud why these people always seem to do this backwards and kill themselves last rather than starting the rampage by first killing themself...
Once again, taxation without representation...I'm starting to get sick of listening to the people who say we can't have a revolution because it would be like the French revolution (yes you Glenn!) if they won't listen to us what real choice do we have? We write to them, we email them we have protests and it falls on deaf ears as they laugh at us and mock us by giving themselves pay raises with our money and we have absolutley no say in it. Voting is a joke anymore because they say what we want to hear during the campaign and then do what they want once they get in office with no fear of reprisal because there is no way for us to effect any. Even if they only get in office once they get a fat pension and health care for life. So again I say what good is it for peaceful protest when all it does is fall on deaf ears?
