wow, um, was just asking your view on the movie comparisons....wasn't really looking for this response.... btw, I tend to agree on 90% of your views here, but I thought you might've provided a more comical rebuttal :P

BM, your thoughts on District 9 and how some tamils feel it's eerily similar to what is occuring in the camps ?

I didn't realize that...I guess all one can do now, besides increasing public awareness, is to wait for the vaccine (phase III of clinical trials).

The government should spray areas where moisquitos breed & heighten public awareness - this is done not only in North America (where it's done to prevent West Nile) but also in poorer Caribbean nations to prevent Dengue.

Bailaman : More Sri Lankan peacekeepers for Haiti

I have nothing against them... I'm as "white-washed" (as I've been told by many sri lankans) as they come... There is a difference between sex-abuse (i.e. rape) and prostitution, and there is substantial evidence that the UN has obtained to prove that SOME of the peacekeepers (not just Sri Lankan) have engaged in such prostitution acts.

Completely ineffable... So what exactly does this mean to you Rishad & Kumar ? "U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas said on Friday 108 of Sri Lanka's 950 soldiers in Haiti were being sent home on disciplinary grounds."

The rape allegations were never proven Kumar - the "transactional sex" allegations were - hence why 108 are being returned on "disciplinary grounds". Perhaps you should read slower next time ?

Bailaman : The exploitation of impoverished children in Sri Lanka

Even civilized educated people can be brought to violence by hatred - I'm sure you're aware of the Embilipitiya massacre (not really related to tamil vs sinhalese, but an example of what hatred can do to "civilized" folk). The only way I see an end to this cycle of hate is for all sides to forgive the actions of the past and move forward. I understand that there are strong emotions involved from both sides, but really, hating certains groups is not going to solve anything; the goverment and all NGO's need to realize to distance their emotions from facts; the Tigers existed for some, due to an injustice (whether true or not - I tend to think it IS true) - take this injustice away (by education, by public policy changes...etc), and the Tamil population will see no need for an "eelam" or the tigers...... just my two cents - I realize many might have a problem with my stated views, but it is exactly that - my personal view....

While that is true Afkam, I think the law failed the bindunuwewa case: "Bindunuwewa and the continuing legal and bureaucratic saga present powerful evidence of institutional discrimination against Tamils that persists even—perhaps especially—at the highest levels of the judiciary and the police." Alan Keenan http://bostonreview.net/BR30.3/keenan.html - a fair and unbiased article published in the Boston Review in 2005

While I don't agree the situations are similar, Sri Lanka can do as it wishes - but preferably before they issue the man in question a flipin' VISA - it defies all logic !
