KCPQ-TV : But they're mine: Mayor investigated for allegedly stealing campaign signs

Wait, so I'm confused. He's being investigated for stealing signs, but he had already paid the fine necessary to be granted his signs back? Is there some kind of question as to the timing of the payment, or what exactly is the misconduct being investigated here?

And this is why I hate election year. I hear so much more about why candidates aren't qualified to lead, and painfully little about why they are. I do have to laugh at the "middle class success story" line though... the middle class generally just has a million dollars lying around to dump into their political campaigns? I guess I'm poorer than I thought.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : McKenna\'s policy assistant: \'Shut up and speak english #asians\' | Local & Regional | Seattle News

I'd be a lot more concerned if it was McKenna himself that tweeted that. The real question is, will the McKenna campaign let her go? How they handle this means a lot more than the fact that they accidentally hired someone who tweeted something racist three months before she was hired. I'm not a McKenna fan, but I'm also not a fan of witchhunts that have nothing to do with the qualifications or views of the candidate.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : More public schools splitting up boys, girls | National & World News | Seattle News, Weather, Sports

The problem I have with this is that education needs to prepare children for the real world, and a big part of that is learning how to work with people who are not like you. Mixing genders in the classroom forces boys and girls to have to deal with each other. Perhaps boys are getting less attention in the classroom for some reason, but that could be rectified without having to remove the icky girls. Besides, yoga for girls before a test and boys going for a run? Way to enforce gender norms there. Girls, you be pretty and do some light stretching, let the boys do the real work!

Unless there's some kind of clause in his contract saying that when the mayor of Ridgefield is on official business the city of Ridgefield is liable for anything he does wrong, I completely agree.
From the title of the article, I expected this lawsuit would be frivolous. The mayor threw something at the councilwoman, it hit her eye and caused severe damage, and he should have to pay for the surgeries related to the damage he caused. What's the mayor doing throwing things around anyway?

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Wash. state wins U.S. \'No Child Left Behind\' waiver | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sp

As much as I am for kids receiving a good, solid education and completely agree with standard items being taught across the board, I'm glad to see that our public schools will be able to focus on something besides testing for a change. From what I've seen with my kids' teachers, the teachers have been focused on nothing but the test for a month prior to testing, and then once the WASL/MSP/HSPE/EOC (or whatever we're calling it today) is over, the education stops for the year. This has been nothing but a disservice to the students and it teaches them that learning something is only important if it helps you pass a test, and that a good, solid educational background is less important than that one test score.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Seattle\'s plastic bag ban takes some by surprise | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports

I think a lot of us "liberals" are just as annoyed with this as anyone else. I always reuse my plastic bags, too, and it saves me money. Fortunately, I don't shop in Seattle very often, but I hope this doesn't spread to the suburbs. Also, because I don't shop in Seattle very often, I'll likely be that person who forgets and has to buy a paper bag. It's just one more thing to have to deal with in this crazy world.
