You need to pay it at once on your tax due for 2016. So you need to file it from January to April 15 2017 and send that money with your tax return for 2016.

Shana lives in Georgia:
Total taxes you need to pay to IRS out of your packet cash for House, 250 K check, car and both is: 633.577.
Explanation:
732.086 is tax on the house. So this is how much you need to pay IRS if you keep the house.
Then you will get 250 k check when taking taxes out of it you have left 145.250 K cash of it. So that will help you toward paying out of your packet and then you need to find 586.836 to pay to IRS. So that is total taxes you need to pay to IRS when you keep the house and use 250 k check. (you also need to pay tax on car and both 41.9% of the value).Car:53,805 plus boat: 57,750 = 111.555 x 41.9%= 46.741.

If you choose cash option and you keep car and boat (you must take that, no cash option for it) you end up with 492.528 for your self.

Explanation: If you take cash option you will end up with 539.269. Here is how: 900 K - tax 509.731(40.4%)= 390.269 then 250k -tax=101.000=149.000. Then you need to pay tax on boat and car which you must take: 46.741,
So if you choose cash option and you keep car and boat (you must take that, no cash option for it) you end up with 492.528.

Yes, you get your 402.331 plus 250.000 plus car plus boat. 250 - appx. 40% = 150.000. So 552.331 grows as cash plus car and boat. It is good price.

Check DH rules: Grand Prize: One (1) Grand Prize Winner shall win the Grand Prize, which consists of: (i) the home located in Merritt Island, Florida (the “HGTV Dream Home 2016”) that is featured in the “HGTV Dream Home 2016” special (including home furnishings, fixtures, artwork, and merchandise) (approximate retail value (“ARV”): $1,389,201; (ii) Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000) (awarded in the form of electronic funds transfer) courtesy of Quicken Loans (the “Cash Prize”); (iii) a 2016 GMC Acadia Denali automobile (MSRP: $53,805) (the “GMC Prize”); and (iv) a 2016 Bryant Sperenza model boat (MSRP: $57,750) (the “Boat”). I just read the rules again, you are right you still get that and you need to pay taxes on it too:
If Grand Prize Winner elects to take the Cash Option, the Grand Prize winner will still receive the Cash Prize, the GMC Prize, and the Boat. That is taxable too.

there are taxes to pay on amount you getting as cash in lieu of house, car and check. I found blogger CCbaguley state tax amount of cash option listed in table and subtracted from 900k. That is how I get:402.331. Find the tax amount of cash option in table of this link. You need to scroll down: http://keypolicydata.com/blog-archives/2015/12/wi...
