Didn't use to be poverty stricken area. It used to be middle and even upper middle class. That followed when the neighborhoods started to deteriorate and housing values dropped.

Very sad the deterioration of the Rainier beach area. 50 years ago this was a very peaceful and quiet neighborhood that was predominantly white. Look at it now and ask yourself why. It is what it is as they say.
